He didn't reply.

Eventually, Bianca ended up pacing the room, rocking Aveline in her arms until the little girl finally exhausted herself and drifted into a deep sleep.

Staring down at her daughter's tear-stained but peaceful face, Bianca's heart finally settled.

She had no idea what the hell Mathis was doing, actually having the nerve to ignore his own daughter.

Bianca pushed the thought aside. She was about to grab her laptop from the other room to get some work done, but the second she tried to stand up, Aveline began to whimper.

Bianca immediately froze and began gently patting her back.

Even in her sleep, Aveline's tiny hands gripped her shirt tightly.

Bianca didn't dare move a muscle, terrified of waking her up.

But she wasn't the least bit tired, so she was forced to just lie there in the dark beside her daughter.

Three grueling hours later, she finally managed to carefully slip out of bed to take a quick shower.

The moment she stepped out of the bathroom, she heard Aveline screaming at the top of her lungs, practically hyperventilating on the bed.

Wilma, hearing the commotion, knocked gently on the door. "Ma'am, Aveline really needs someone with her when she sleeps. Please try not to leave her alone."

Bianca called back through the door, "I know."

She quickly climbed back into bed and pulled Aveline close, trying to soothe her.

The little girl was crying hysterically for her dad, but Bianca refused to call Mathis again.

If he had wanted to answer, he would have called back by now. It had been hours without a single word; who knew what kind of mess he was busy with!

And frankly, Bianca didn't care to guess.

The only thing gnawing at the back of her mind was the faint suspicion that he had gone to bail Cynthia out.

If he had, she was going to have to spend a lot of time drawing up a new battle plan.

Bianca softly sang and rocked Aveline for another half hour before the exhausted toddler finally surrendered to sleep again.

With her daughter securely tucked against her side, Bianca actually managed to sleep in an extra half hour the next morning.

She gazed down at Aveline's serene face, completely unable to resist pressing two soft kisses against those chubby pink cheeks.

Aveline seemed deeply insecure, her tiny fingers still gripping her mother tightly.

Bianca patted her gently. "Be a good girl, Sweetie. Mommy is right here!"

Bianca woke up incredibly early the next morning, but Aveline refused to let her go.

Instead of getting up to start her workday, she just stayed in bed, keeping Aveline company.
