Mathis finally accepted the request.

He clicked on the video and watched Bianca singing adorably while interacting with Aveline.

A gentle, maternal warmth seemed to flow right through the screen. Her usual cold and stubborn exterior was completely gone, making her look like a completely different person.

This was the devoted wife and loving mother Mathis had always longed for. He muttered to himself, "She just won't ever be gentle with me."

Jax went back to his room and placed a voice call to Mathis. "You saw how happy Bianca is when she's with Aveline. If you truly want what's best for her, give Aveline back."

Mathis's voice was icy. "And in what capacity are you demanding this of me?"

"As her brother," Jax replied. "Aveline and I are her only remaining family in this world. If you don't want Bianca's condition to worsen, treat her better. Truly loving someone means wanting them to be happy, not constantly forcing them to your will."

Mathis let out a disdainful sneer. "Don't act so noble. Haven't you been pining for her all these years?"

Jax was completely honest about his feelings. "Yes, I've always loved her. But she only sees me as family, so I stepped back to quietly protect her from the shadows.

When she chose you back then, you didn't cherish her. You pushed her to the brink of despair. That's entirely your own doing.

Whoever she chooses next, as long as he truly loves her, I won't stand in the way."

A wave of overwhelming jealousy surged within Mathis. He had been jealous of Jax for three entire years. It had hung over their marriage like the Sword of Damocles.

Mathis ground his teeth. "Jax, if she only sees you as family, why is her phone passcode your birthday? Two years ago, she told me to my face that she had feelings for you, not me."
