Read The Transactional Marriage That Imploded novel Bianca and Mathis Chapter 279 by Ansel Bick
Maxine's blunt question instantly made Bianca choke violently on her water. Milo hurriedly patted her back to help her catch her breath.
He felt a sting of disappointment. Whenever their potential future was mentioned, this was exactly how she reacted.
Maxine assumed Bianca was terrified his parents would find out about her child, so she doubled down. "Bianca, it's better to get this out in the open right away. You don't want to get strung along, only for his parents to veto the marriage at the altar. That's just a massive waste of your youth."
Having finally stopped coughing, Bianca hurriedly clarified, "Maxine, Milo and I aren't together. We're just friends. Please don't say things like that."
Corbin shot her a highly amused look. It seemed she wasn't actually planning to let Mathis off the hook after all.
Mathis was deeply ruthless and cunning. He had backed her into a corner where she couldn't even fight back, so why on earth was she still tying herself to that sinking ship?
People simply couldn't allow themselves to be shackled by emotions. Once love entered the equation, the complications were endless.
Karis immediately bristled, clearly displeased. "The only reason we're even considering a divorced woman is because my son is infatuated with her. But bringing a child into the mix? Absolutely not. I draw the line there."
The smile instantly froze on Maxine's face, and every ounce of goodwill she had felt toward Karis vanished.
She fired back sharply, completely unbothered by the woman's wealth. "If you don't accept it, fine. It's not like Bianca is begging to marry into your family anyway."
In Maxine's eyes, Bianca was stunning and brilliant. Any man who couldn't see that was completely blind.
Milo scrambled to salvage the situation. "Maxine, please don't be mad. I'm actively pursuing her, and I make my own decisions regarding who I marry."
Infuriated by Karis's attitude, Maxine's expression darkened, and she sharply drew a line. "Mr. Wilder, don't just call me whatever you please. We aren't family."
The atmosphere inside the private room became instantly suffocating.
Cillian sweated on Milo's behalf. Professor Adler had a notoriously short temper, but his wife was basically a battering ram.
Even the professor was terrified of her.
Karis was livid. Her son was the golden child of their elite circle. How was he somehow not good enough for a divorced mother?
Just as she opened her mouth to snap back at Maxine, Marcus calmly intervened. "Please, there's no need to be upset. Our family isn't stuck in the dark ages. As long as the two of them genuinely love each other, I have absolutely no objections."
"We certainly don't lack money; what matters is emotional fulfillment. I'm thrilled that my son has found someone his heart belongs to. Life is about more than just chasing power and wealth. It's about finding a true partner to share it with."
Marcus's statement stunned everyone at the table. Even Corbin was carefully analyzing his words.
He wasn't sure if Marcus was just being diplomatic or if he actually meant it. If he did, then this billionaire was incredibly grounded.
