The Transactional Marriage That Imploded novel Chapter 287

Bianca nudged him. 'What are you doing?'

Terrified that Chloe was about to make a move on him, Milo acted pitifully and whined to Bianca, 'You have to keep a close eye on me. Someone is lusting after my good looks.'

Bianca didn't even have to guess to know Chloe was up to her tricks. She told him, 'Stop acting pitiful. No one is going to kidnap you. And stop whining.'

Milo obediently went back to eating, while Chloe looked completely disgusted.

Hailey intentionally placed a meatball in Cillian's bowl and mimicked a high-pitched, sweet voice. 'Eat up, Cillian.'

Goosebumps erupted on Cillian's skin. Exasperated, he threatened, 'Hailey, if you keep messing around, I'm calling your advisor and telling him to double your workload.'

Hailey's advisor was Cillian's former college classmate, who had gone on to earn a Ph.D. at MIT and then returned to teach at their alma mater.

He was already notorious for being strict with his students. If Cillian added fuel to the fire, Hailey felt she'd be reduced to a beast of burden.

She immediately begged for mercy. 'I'm sorry! I'll never tease you again.'

Seeking revenge, Cillian piled a mountain of food into her bowl.

With a fake smile, he warned, 'If you don't finish all of this, I'm going to have a very serious chat with your advisor about your academic progress.'

Terrified that he would actually lose his humanity and assign her more work, Hailey stuffed herself until she felt like bursting.

'Cillian, when are you going to start acting like a human being?'

He scoffed, 'Never have, never will.'

Watching the two bicker, Xanthe laughed. 'Cillian can be pretty childish sometimes, picking fights with a young girl like Hailey.'

Bianca chimed in, 'He's always been like this. Back in the day, if I offended him, he'd dump all the tasks the professor gave him onto me. I had to slave away in the lab for a whole month before he finally cooled off.'

'Wow,' Xanthe clicked her tongue. 'I never knew he oppressed you like that. I always thought he was super protective of you.'

'He just doesn't let *other* people bully me,' Bianca explained. 'He has no problem bullying me himself. In his words, only he is allowed to bully his own junior.'

Milo eagerly volunteered, 'Next time he bullies you, tell me, and I'll have my dad deal with him.'

Bianca said there was no need to involve his dad; just telling Professor Adler would be enough to get Cillian an earful.

Hearing this, Hailey immediately piped up, 'Next time you visit Professor Adler, take me with you!'

'Deal!'

Having his past exposed, Cillian glared in frustration.

After lunch, the three-bedroom apartment felt a bit cramped, and Milo felt his long legs had nowhere to stretch out.
