But acting that obsequious and completely abandoning his dignity?
He just couldn't bring himself to do it.
When they arrived at Stellaride, Bianca was packing up her things to leave, video chatting with Milo as she did.
His company had been swamped lately, and the former playboy was actually pulling overtime with his team.
He was eating a cheap takeout box his assistant had picked up.
He complained about how ridiculously expensive the food was around his office and mentioned setting up an in-house cafeteria so the staff could get affordable, decent meals.
Bianca teased him, asking how a rich heir knew anything about that. Milo laughed and said there were no "young masters" in Austin City.
"I eat from food trucks all the time. Remember those local spots I took you to? Way better than those fancy five-star restaurants."
"That's true. I really miss the food down there."
And the company.
Milo grinned. "Arden City's food is even better. I'll take you there sometime."
"Deal!"
Milo immediately offered to send one of his family's private chefs over to her, but Bianca turned him down, saying it was too much hassle.
They chatted effortlessly about everything under the sun, and he always knew exactly how to make her laugh.
Bianca joked that he was entirely full of nonsense and not aloof at all.
Milo retorted, "I can't be aloof around you. You're the ice queen here. I'll just handle being the dork."
He then started talking about his edgy teenage superhero phase, when he was obsessed with comic books and fantasized about saving the world.
But reality hit when he nearly failed to get into a decent domestic university and his dad beat him black and blue.
His family spent over a million on private tutors, and he barely scraped his way into an acceptable college in the States.
To save his father's face, he went on to grad school and almost didn't graduate.
Milo said with a self-deprecating grin, "I guess I couldn't save the world, so I had to save myself first before my dad buried me alive.
Not like you, reading college textbooks as a teenager just to get into the gifted program. Compared to you, I'm the ultimate slacker."
Bianca's expression suddenly fell. She sighed softly. "If the Quinn family hadn't interfered and caused my mom to lose her lawsuit, I wouldn't have been forced to grow up overnight.
When I was in college, I did everything I could not to ask her for money. I survived entirely on scholarships.
I didn't even have time to get a part-time job because I practically lived in the library.
My only goal was to get a professor to mentor me, so I had to rank first in every single class."
Mathis and the group stood silently outside her door, listening. A sudden, deep ache seized Mathis's chest.
