Upon hearing this price, Cynthia gleefully squeezed Mathis's hand. He truly had gone to great lengths for her. That pitiful Bianca was only fit to eat leftovers.

Maxine, on the other hand, admired Mathis's extravagance. Even though this woman was an airhead, she must be quite something to capture Mathis's heart.

Professor Adler said coldly, "Don't tell me you're short of money. I know you've never cared about titles and such, but giving up credit is disrespectful to the technology. You are my student; I won't allow you to be so blind to right and wrong."

Hearing the suppressed anger in Professor Adler's voice, Bianca said cautiously, "Professor, just assume I let greed get the better of me this time."

She simply couldn't explain the situation between her and Mathis clearly.

Professor Adler's voice was full of disappointment, "Bianca, you've disappointed me so much."

He hung up the phone.

Seeing her husband's intense anger, Maxine quickly poured him some more coffee and gently comforted him, "Look at you, still having such a big temper at your age. Bianca's parents have both passed away; there's nothing wrong with her choosing the money. Don't you know that girl? She cares about technology more than you do. She must have been driven to a corner by someone."

As Maxine spoke, she rolled her eyes at Mathis. It was fine if he liked an airhead, but he just had to mess with her husband's student.

When the old man got furious, he was capable of anything.

Professor Adler drank his coffee, pondering what to do next.

Mathis completely ignored Maxine's eye roll and spoke up, "Professor Adler, if you take Cynthia as your student, I'll invest five hundred million into your new project."

As soon as Professor Adler saw Cillian, he blew his top. "You used to always praise Mathis for having a good eye. I say he's just plain blind. Bringing an idiot and demanding I take her in, just so she can be a nuisance in my project group?"

Maxine explained what had just happened in a few words.

Cillian gasped. Five hundred million! Mathis really was willing to do anything for love.

He apologized repeatedly, "Professor, I only knew Mathis was good at investing; I never realized he was so deeply lovesick."

To pave the way for someone like Cynthia to this extent, Cillian thought of how Bianca had said her husband was seriously ill for those few years, and she had taken care of him personally for three years. He felt even more that it wasn't worth it for her.

Professor Adler said, "Anyway, I won't accept that woman. By the way, was Bianca threatened by Mathis?"
