The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 127

Juno was honestly baffled.

What was the point of comparing something so meaningless?

Her expression darkened slightly. "You look like an absolute idiot."

With that, she grabbed Claire and walked away.

Claire looked at Juno with complicated emotions. If she faced this kind of petty hostility out in public, she could only imagine how toxic the environment must be for her back at the Corrington house.

"Um... if you ever feel overwhelmed or mistreated, you can always come to me."

Juno gave her a look, hands stuffed casually in her pockets, looking effortlessly cool and a little dangerous. "It's noon. Let's go grab food."

Claire nodded. She mentally braced herself for an ultra-expensive, high-end restaurant, quietly panicking over whether she had enough money in her account.

Her father, Gideon, was notoriously stingy with her allowance.

But when Juno casually led her to a bustling street food stall, Claire stood there for a moment, unable to process it.

"Sit wherever."

Juno casually slid the plastic menu across the table toward Claire.

Claire, who had been stressing just seconds prior, beamed brightly. "Lunch is on me today!"

"Sure."

After Claire placed their order, she sat properly at the table. She looked over at Juno, who had one foot propped aggressively on the bottom rung of an adjacent chair, sitting with total, unapologetic swagger.

Claire couldn't help but smile.

Juno was the most uniquely captivating person she had met in her entire life.

While they were eating, a commotion erupted at a neighboring table. Three young men were jeering, aggressively harassing an elderly man.

The old man, dressed in tattered clothes, was trembling violently. He bowed his head, frantically digging through his pockets for crumpled bills. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... I'll pay you back..."

The most aggressive of the young punks slapped the old man's handful of coins away in disgust. "Do you have any idea how much these shoes cost, you old freak?! They can't get wet, do you understand?! Did you do this on purpose?!"

The worn-out, dirty bills and coins scattered across the ground, and the old man hurriedly dropped to his knees to gather them.

Refusing to back down, Claire stood up. "How much are your stupid shoes? I'll pay for them."

The punk smirked arrogantly. "Oh yeah? You'll pay? Twenty thousand."

Claire's hand hovered over her purse, freezing. Twenty thousand... she didn't have that kind of money on her.

It was humiliating. A wealthy heiress who couldn't even scrape together twenty thousand in a pinch.

Instinctively, she looked over at Juno, who was casually sipping a beer.

The punk caught her subtle plea for help. "Tch. No money? If you're broke, stop trying to play the hero."

He shifted his gaze to Juno, raking his eyes up and down her frame. Just another wannabe tough girl.

Juno set her cup down, pushed her chair back, and walked straight toward him.

The punk laughed. "What, looking at your face, you think you're gonna hit me?"

Juno offered a chilling, dead-eyed smile. "Yeah. Good guess."
