The reporters’ questions were sharp and merciless.
“I won’t deny that,” Evelyn Reed said, her expression entirely unreadable.
“Then why clarify things for someone with such corrupted morals?” a reporter sneered.
“The only reason globally renowned corporations like Apex Entertainment, Octy, and YG exist today is because of my mentor, Maia Mercer.”
A shockwave rippled through the crowd. These were titans of the industry. How could they possibly be connected to a minor celebrity with a messy private life?
Evelyn had to be making this up.
Evelyn stopped there, careful not to reveal too much. She knew exactly what could and couldn’t be said.
“My mentor has a younger sister. The two of them suffered immensely growing up, and no one knows how hard it was for them to survive in this cruel world.
My mentor worked herself to the bone to provide for her, and that little sister didn’t let her down. She founded multiple brands.”
Even as a child, Juno knew the value of money. She used whatever cash her sister gave her and multiplied it aggressively.
She learned to paint and became the highly sought-after artist, Cyan. She used the money from her art to create Octy, establishing herself as the elusive designer, Jumer.
No one understood how to make money work for them quite like she did.
“I called this press conference today for two reasons. First, to tell the public to stop judging someone’s survival choices with your shallow perspectives, and stop using your mundane standards to decide if someone deserves to live. Second, to send a message to everyone—including the bastards pulling the strings behind the scenes. The syndicates won’t let this go.”
If reasoning wouldn’t work, then raw power would.
In a world heavily dictated by hierarchy, you only had a voice if you stood at the very top.
“Please give us a second chance! We really won’t ever speak without evidence again!”
Evelyn remained utterly unmoved. Looking at the sobbing group, she said coldly, “Your irresponsible words drove innocent people to their deaths. You have no right to beg for my forgiveness.”
“These faces will be broadcasted live for everyone to see. This is the price of being a keyboard warrior!”
Furious, Evelyn kicked the table hard, her beautiful eyes practically shooting ice. She was truly enraged.
No one in the room dared to breathe.
Some of Evelyn’s words were a bit cryptic, but that wasn’t the takeaway.
The reporters quickly realized that since the press conference began, an invisible net had been cast over them. They were all caught in it, and the ones pulling the strings were the corporate titans Evelyn had mentioned.
