The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 157

The night wind was stiflingly warm, carrying an irritating humidity.

Juno played along, offering a deadpan thumbs-up. “Great story.”

Rylan wasn’t having it. “So, where are you going?”

“Sneaking out in the middle of the night obviously isn't to do charity work.”

Juno answered without blinking. She brought two fingers to her forehead in a lazy salute. “See ya.”

Pushing off the wall with her left hand, she vaulted smoothly over the other side.

Morgan was already waiting for her outside. Once Juno got in the car, he drove straight to Chuck’s location.

It was a private, highly secured villa.

Morgan parked outside. Miles had been waiting by the door, and after ushering Juno inside, he boldly let himself into the passenger seat of Morgan’s car.

Morgan didn't even look at him, his jaw set like stone. “I didn’t invite you in.”

“Those two have important business to discuss. I’d just be a third wheel in there. Do you really have the heart to leave me out here on the stairs to get eaten alive by mosquitoes?”

He stared at Morgan, his eyes wide and completely shameless.

Morgan: “Yes.”

Miles exhaled in relief, but before he could celebrate, Morgan kicked him squarely out of the car. A completely soulless voice followed. “But I don't have the heart to let you pollute my precious car.”

Miles stumbled to his feet, pointing furiously into the vehicle. “Morgan, you ******* *****!”

His precious car?!

The guy had over a hundred cars in his garage.

He sure was full of love for all of them!

He was going to rip the wheels off this piece of junk tomorrow!

What was he so smug about?!

“Smack.” Miles slapped his own cheek, peeling a dead mosquito off his skin.

His face darkened. Resigned, he plopped down on the concrete steps, freezing in place and glaring fixedly at Morgan without blinking.

Morgan couldn’t be bothered to look at him, but Miles’s stare was so venomous it felt like he had been murdered a dozen times over in the man's head.

“I can’t stand you,” Morgan muttered under his breath. Giving in, he unlocked the door. “Get in.”

He turned on the lights.

The study was immaculate and sprawling. The minimalist decor exuded quiet, understated luxury.

“The baby swap between you and Rhiannon—it wasn’t the Mercer family’s doing,” Chuck stated plainly.

“I always assumed the Mercer family swapped the babies maliciously because they were poor and wanted their child to have a better life.”

Now, it seemed the truth was far more complicated.

“I haven’t found anything else yet.”

Juno pulled a book from the shelf at random and flipped through it. “No rush.”

She wasn't particularly anxious to find out.

She was mostly just curious about why Rhiannon had never tried to contact the Mercer family after moving in with Matilda Jagger.

It seemed far too cold-blooded.

Yet Rhiannon was incredibly sycophantic toward the Corringtons and Jaggers.

A thought suddenly struck her, and she closed the book, looking at Chuck. “By the way, there’s a new faction rising through the ranks at a terrifying speed. What’s your connection to them?”
