The lawyer stared at Juno Mercer in absolute disbelief. "You've seen the original will?"
How else could she possibly know the exact amendments?
"You're dismissed," Juno said flatly.
The lawyer blinked.
That was it?
Were the ultra-rich always this delightfully unhinged?
Seeing him frozen in place, Juno raised an eyebrow. "What? Do you need an invitation to leave?"
He scrambled to gather his paperwork. "No, no, I'm leaving right now."
Taking advantage of the momentary shift in bodyguards as the lawyer exited, Kaelen Jagger shoved past two of them and marched straight toward Juno.
Before he could even open his mouth, she dropped the bomb. "Rhiannon Corrington is trying to kill Matilda."
Kaelen stopped dead in his tracks, his brow furrowing deeply. "What?"
Suddenly, the pieces clicked into place. He understood exactly why Juno had demanded to see the will.
Matilda's original will had absolutely nothing to do with Rhiannon. Now, with Rhiannon's name plastered all over the newly amended version, her motives were sickeningly obvious.
Kaelen slammed his fist onto the table. "I never would have thought!"
Juno merely supplied the identity of the poisoner; whatever happened next was none of her business.
.
Night fell. The VIP floor of Genesis Hospital was eerily deserted, the long, sterile corridor stretching out endlessly.
A heavily bundled figure slipped out of the stairwell, moving with practiced agility to dodge the security cameras before ducking into Matilda's private suite.
The overnight aide was dozing off in the corner. Rhiannon Corrington frowned behind her mask. Where was the Jagger family?
But it was too late. The harsh overhead lights flicked on, leaving her with nowhere to hide.
Two doctors rushed in to stabilize Matilda, while a pair of burly bodyguards dragged Rhiannon out into the hall. They ruthlessly yanked off her black mask. As her pretty face was exposed to the blinding light, all the color drained from it the second she saw who was waiting for her.
She had wondered why there was no one guarding the room. They were all out here.
The entire Jagger family stood assembled in the corridor. Their expressions ranged from shock to fury, but every single pair of eyes looked at her with pure, unadulterated disgust—as if she were toxic waste.
Juno was lingering at the very back of the crowd. She sat leisurely on a hospital bench, dressed in a soft, pale ivory shirt with the sleeves rolled up to reveal slender wrists. She held a cup of iced coffee, sipping it idly as she enjoyed the show.
Babur Corrington was seated right next to her. "Juno, you're amazing. You figured out Rhiannon was the poisoner without breaking a sweat."
"Anyone with half a brain could figure it out," she replied smoothly.
No one in the Jagger family was stupid. Even if she hadn't said a word, they would have put the pieces together eventually.
It just would have taken them a little longer.
