The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 164

Gwendolyn was genuinely worried that Rhiannon would try to sabotage Juno.

Juno met Gwendolyn's gaze directly. "And what kind of person do you think I am?"

She hadn't actually expected a serious answer.

But Gwendolyn's expression softened, her eyes filled with maternal sincerity. "Juno, you need to put yourself first sometimes. With a personality like yours, people will try to take advantage of you."

She left the rest unspoken.

For once, Juno was genuinely puzzled by the advice.

On move-in day, Gwendolyn walked Juno all the way to the campus gates, looking as though she were sending her off to war.

Babur rolled his eyes. "She's coming back on the weekends, Mom. The campus is literally five miles from the house. Stop being so dramatic."

"Don't speak to me," Gwendolyn snapped. "You're annoying."

Babur sighed in defeat.

Juno didn't actually own much, but Gwendolyn, terrified her daughter might go hungry or cold, had packed an insane amount of supplies. Juno strolled onto campus, effortlessly rolling two massive suitcases behind her without a single change in expression.

The heavy trunks looked like they weighed a ton, but she handled them as if they were empty.

Claire Ashworth was jogging toward the entrance and practically collided with her. "Juno!"

After the long break, Claire looked glowing and energized. She immediately grabbed one of the heavy suitcases to help.

"We got a new roommate, by the way!"

The dorm had previously only housed three girls; now it was at full capacity.

Juno preferred her peace and quiet, so she didn't offer much of a reaction. "Okay."

"Oh, and the department head gave you a direct assignment. There's a major speech competition to kick off the semester, and he specifically requested you."

"Me?"

Juno looked skeptical.

"Yep! He totally knew you'd reject him if he asked directly, so he made me be the messenger."

Claire chattered on excitedly. "I have no idea what you did to catch his eye, but you practically radiate boss energy! You're guaranteed to win and bring glory to our department!"

Juno remained silent.

It was supposed to be Juno's competition, but Claire was bouncing around like a hyped-up cheerleader. She had even written the entire speech draft herself.

"Just look it over. I just threw some ideas together, so use whatever parts you like!"

Juno stared blankly at the floor. Her period?

Why on earth did it hurt this much?

She had never experienced anything like this before.

Back in Blackwood City, she barely even noticed it.

This body was simply too fragile. Just a normal cycle was enough to make her feel like she was dying.

"Juno!"

Chuck Yates strode into the classroom and immediately saw her folded over in distress. He rushed to her side, gripping her shoulders. "What's wrong?"

"My... stomach hurts," Juno managed to say, hissing as another sharp cramp tore through her.

The pain came in aggressive waves, as if a jackhammer was going off inside her.

Getting shot would honestly be less agonizing.

Wasting no time, Chuck stripped off his tailored suit jacket, wrapped it tightly around her waist, and scooped her up into his arms, carrying her right out the door.

Seconds after they left, a shadowy figure slipped into the empty classroom, walked over to Juno's desk, and snatched up the abandoned speech draft.
