The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 169

Faye opened her mouth to argue, but noticing the growing crowd of curious onlookers, she spat out a panicked threat and quickly fled the scene.

With all the chatter around them, Claire hadn't caught the last part. "What did she just say?"

Juno continued down the steps, entirely unbothered. "She said this isn't over."

Claire rolled her eyes so hard she saw stars. "She has zero shame. It is weird though—she used to follow Rhiannon around like a lost puppy, but lately she's been completely on her own."

Gwendolyn, who was walking up behind them, happened to overhear the remark.

Juno glanced back. A brief flicker of tension crossed Gwendolyn's face before she quickly masked it with a proud, beaming smile. "You were absolutely magnificent up there today, Juno."

Claire immediately shifted into polite mode. "Hello, Mrs. Corrington."

Gwendolyn smiled warmly at her. "You must come over to the house for dinner when you have the time."

Flattered, Claire looked at Juno. "I'd love to, thank you!"

"I won't hold you girls up any longer then."

Turning back to Juno, Gwendolyn gently smoothed her daughter's hair, her eyes brimming with relief. "You've grown into such a remarkable young woman."

Despite growing up in a terrible environment, Juno hadn't let it break her.

She had flourished like a resilient evergreen—standing tall, unbothered by the harsh winters, and beautiful in her strength.

Reading the room, Claire politely excused herself, giving Juno and her mother some privacy.

Juno walked shoulder-to-shoulder with Gwendolyn, while Sebastian and Rylan trailed quietly behind them.

The Corrington family was famously attractive. Walking together across the crowded campus, they naturally drew stares and whispers from every direction.

"Wait, Professor Corrington is Juno's brother? They look so much alike! Their genetics are totally unfair. And that guy walking next to him is gorgeous too!"

"Look at her mom, she's absolutely stunning!"

Listening to the endless commentary, they finally reached the main campus gates.

Gwendolyn had spent the entire walk fussing over Juno's dorm life and meal plans, but as she reached the car, she suddenly hesitated.

Juno easily read her hesitation. "Just say whatever is on your mind."

Gwendolyn anxiously rubbed her thumb against the car door handle. "Juno... ever since Rhiannon left the hospital that day, she's completely vanished. Have you heard anything about her?"

She couldn't fully let go. Even knowing the horrible things Rhiannon had done, the maternal worry was still deeply ingrained.

"No," Juno replied honestly. Then she smoothly pivoted. "But I can have someone look into it. I'll let you know if I find anything."

She said it with complete emotional detachment, as calm as a still lake.

Even though he had seen Morgan's stealthy entrances before, it still gave him a heart attack every time.

Juno turned smoothly, her expression shifting into business mode. "Did you find her?"

"She was taken in by a family."

"Taken in?"

Juno narrowed her eyes slightly.

"They aren't locals from Kingsland. My operatives are tailing them right now. They've already left the city limits."

Juno thoughtfully spun her phone in her hand. "Keep a close eye on their movements. I want real-time updates."

Morgan posed the question casually, without any intention of questioning her orders. "You seem unusually invested in Rhiannon's whereabouts."

Rhiannon was utterly useless; she didn't have the power to make any real waves.

"I have zero interest in her, but my mother wants to know where she is." Juno tilted her head slightly. "And I highly suspect the family that scooped her up shares her DNA."

Morgan frowned. "That sounds a little far-fetched."

Juno stopped spinning the phone and slipped it into her pocket. "Which is exactly why I want them followed. Dig into their background and run a covert DNA test on them. Send me the report."
