"Understood."
Morgan always executed her orders without hesitation.
They had conducted the entire exchange right in front of Sebastian. After Morgan vanished back into the shadows, Sebastian stepped up to Juno, a smug, uncontrollable smile spreading across his face. "You didn't even try to hide that from me."
It clearly meant Juno had fully accepted him into her inner circle.
Juno gave him a sidelong glance, her eyes widening slightly in mock surprise. "Oh. You're still here?"
Sebastian's smile instantly vanished.
So she hadn't trusted him—she had literally just forgotten he existed.
He pointed indignantly to the spot where he had just been standing. "I have literally been right here the entire time. How did you not see me?"
Refusing to engage in this pointless banter, Juno turned and started walking back onto the campus. "I didn't."
Sebastian’s inner child flared up. "Do you have any idea how much I stand out in a crowd?! People literally fight for ten seconds of my time. You're taking me completely for granted! The only reason you get away with treating me like this is because you're my sister!"
"Uh-huh."
"What is with this attitude? Why are you so cold to me? Has my flawless face lost its appeal to you?"
"Yep."
Juno had never realized just how incredibly annoying he could be.
He was a total headache.
Deeply offended, Sebastian huffed. "You're getting way too arrogant. Are you honestly trying to tell me I don't look better than Chuck Yates?"
Completely ignoring the stares of the passing students, he chased after her, aggressively demanding an answer.
To the onlookers, the typically aloof and untouchable Professor Corrington looked like a desperate puppy, tailing Juno and practically begging for her validation.
"Wow. Who knew the icy professor was actually obsessed with his little sister?"
"Ugh, I am so jealous! If I had a brother that gorgeous fawning over me, I'd lose my mind! How is she ignoring him?!"
At the mention of Chuck, Juno actually stopped. She turned to face Sebastian, slowly looking him up and down with terrifying sincerity. "You've never seen Chuck back in the day. If you had, you wouldn't even have the nerve to ask that question."
Sebastian looked utterly bewildered.
Who?
Chuck?
That guy?
A quick text message seemed a bit too dismissive for this kind of news. It was better to deliver it in person.
That Saturday, Juno headed straight to the Corrington residence.
Upon arriving, a maid informed her that Gwendolyn was currently over at the Corrington Estate.
"Is Gerda okay?" Juno asked, slightly concerned.
The maid shook her head. "She's perfectly fine. We were just told a VIP guest arrived today and specifically demanded your mother's presence."
"Got it."
Juno grabbed her keys and drove straight to the main estate.
She walked through the grand double doors just in time to witness a vicious slap land directly on Gwendolyn's cheek. The aristocratic woman standing opposite her was screaming with righteous fury, "How could you be so utterly heartless?! This massive estate couldn't spare one room for a child?! Do you have any idea what she was doing when I found her?! She was fighting stray dogs for scraps of food!
I understand that a horrific mistake happened years ago, and I know you resent what happened to your biological daughter! But you are a mother! The second your real child returns, you just toss Rhiannon onto the streets to die?!
Every time I picture my little girl starving in the gutters, it makes me want to strike you again!"
She raised her hand high, preparing to deliver a second brutal blow.
Juno's face went absolutely frigid, a lethal darkness flooding her eyes as she stepped into the room. "Throwing your weight around inside the Corrington Estate. How bold of you."
