The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 173

Melba had always looked down on Margie. Margie only had her current success because the Corrington family was wealthy and her two brothers shielded her from everything.

She was spoiled, temperamental, and hardly a decent person.

The Corringtons were tall, and the way Margie stood her ground meant her presence easily matched Melba's.

After all, she hadn't shed her wild, aggressive streak even after all these years.

Melba didn't want a physical confrontation, so she bit back. "Are you really going to make this ugly?"

Margie lowered her eyes, casually admiring the sparkling diamond ring on her finger. "I'm not the one making it ugly." She looked up. "Everyone knows how fiercely my brothers protect me. And today, you hit Gwendolyn right under my roof. This is far from over."

She stood shoulder to shoulder with Juno. Both wore nearly identical, unyielding expressions. They didn't say a word, but the very air in the room demanded an apology.

If she didn't apologize today, she likely wasn't leaving.

Sometimes, one had to be tactical. Swallowing her pride temporarily was a small price to pay.

Melba took a deep breath, lowered her head, and faced Gwendolyn. "I was out of line. I hope you can be the bigger person and forgive my behavior."

Juno and Margie remained silent. If Gwendolyn wanted to let it go, they would. If she didn't, Melba wasn't getting out of there easily.

Ever the gentle soul, Gwendolyn showed empathy. "It's fine. You were just overcome with anxiety."

Melba straightened up. "I'll be taking my leave, then."

She turned and took two steps, only to find Margie and Juno standing completely still, blocking her path like a solid brick wall.

Melba glanced back at Gwendolyn.

Gwendolyn softened her tone. "Let her go."

Only at her word did the two reluctantly step aside to let her pass.

In a way, Juno and Margie were remarkably similar.

A rush of warmth filled Gwendolyn's heart. "You really don't need to go to all that trouble."

"No. This is far from over."

Gordon and Margie said in unison.

Juno had nothing left to say to the siblings. "Mom, are you heading back now?"

At that, Gwendolyn replied, "I'll just go say goodbye to your grandmother, then we can head out."

"Okay."

Juno walked over, linking her arm affectionately through Gwendolyn's as they headed out.

By the time they arrived back at their estate, Harrison was already home. Still in his suit, he had evidently just returned.

Seeing them, he immediately stood up, his brow furrowed deeply. His eyes locked entirely onto Gwendolyn. Her cheek was visibly swollen now. Distraught, he asked, "How did she hit you this hard? And you didn't even fight back?"
