The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 175

"Did you need anything else?"

Gwendolyn blinked blankly. "No."

"Good."

Juno shut the door.

From start to finish, Gwendolyn had been completely blindsided.

She wandered back downstairs, entirely bamboozled by Juno.

She had taken one slap, and in response, both the Corrington and Jagger families had mobilized. On top of that, there were her daughter's forces and The Imperium.

She fell into deep thought. Knowing how these things worked, the boss of The Imperium had to have his eye on her daughter.

Why else would they eagerly jump into such a messy conflict?

Morgan was sitting inside the room as Juno picked up the thread.

"A cornered dog will inevitably lash out. Keep pressing until they make a move."

"Understood."

Juno was right. Not even three days later, the Talbot family sent over invitations to an art exhibition featuring Cyan's work.

These were pieces from their private collection.

Gwendolyn loved art. Sending this invitation was a clear olive branch, a desperate plea for peace.

Gwendolyn set the invitation on the table.

Harrison told her, "If you want to go, go. If not, ignore it. Don't force yourself."

After mulling it over, Gwendolyn said, "I think I'd like to check it out. Our families have done business together for a long time; we shouldn't burn the bridge completely just yet."

Making it irreconcilable would look bad. They still had to move in the same corporate circles, and it was never wise to push things past the point of no return.

"You're actually going? Honestly, I'd rather you didn't. They're the ones begging you; you don't owe them your presence."

Gwendolyn shot him a side-eye. "You're too aggressive. Haven't you ever heard of leaving room for compromise? If you hadn't made so many enemies when you were younger, maybe someone would have actually shown up to our daughter's birthday party out of respect for you."

That had been such a dismal affair.

She still believed that treating people with kindness was the better path.

To look perfectly normal, she had caked on a thick layer of foundation.

Her makeup skills were excellent; surely Juno wouldn't notice!

Juno glanced at her, instantly seeing through the ploy. "Got it. I'll call off the hit after I attend the exhibition."

This was the absolute maximum leniency Juno was willing to offer.

Gwendolyn nodded vigorously. "Deal."

Harrison was dumbfounded. Tsk, tsk, look at those double standards.

He suddenly remembered something. "Oh, by the way, your Aunt Margie asked if you wanted to go to the exhibition. She wants to tag along with you."

Knowing the friction between them, he couldn't help but try to smooth things over. "She doesn't have any bad intentions. She was just naive at first and let herself be used."

After all, who didn't want harmony in the family?

He fully expected Juno to refuse, but without a change in expression, she gave a brief nod. "Sure."

Smiling, Harrison texted his sister the good news.
