Lorcan, stuck in his wheelchair, was suddenly at a loss for words.
Juno didn't let up. "You really know how to make an impression. In a single night, you managed to find yourself a 'Grandpa' and give your father a new ‘daddy.’ I do wonder, how is his mood holding up? Heh, maybe the young master should go back and handle his family affairs first."
Her sharp words were brief but deeply humiliating.
Every move she made felt incredibly familiar to Lorcan, but he just couldn't place who she reminded him of.
Under Lorcan's "friendly" glare, Chuck and Juno boarded their plane and disappeared from sight.
...
On the flight back to Kingsland.
Chuck looked at Juno, who was visibly in a great mood. "Did you have fun?"
A subtle smile graced her lips. "It was alright."
If she hadn't forgotten to bring her gun that night, she would have put a couple of holes in Lorcan.
"Behave yourself for a while."
Juno readily agreed. "Sure."
For the next little while, Juno really did keep a low profile.
Because she had beaten up Lorcan, she had been in high spirits lately, but Claire Ashworth wasn't having such a great time.
She looked thoroughly depressed.
Juno casually sat down next to her, her eyes glancing at the data displayed on Claire's tablet.
"You opened a store?"
Slumped over the table, Claire nodded. "I didn't want to keep relying on my family, so I thought I'd start my own business. But I've been losing money for the past few months."
She had sunk almost all of her savings into it.
And she was seeing absolutely zero returns.
Lately, she had been living on a painfully tight budget.
Juno looked away from the screen. "I'll find some time to go check out your store."
Claire sat up straight and stared at Juno without saying a word, lost in thought.
"What is it?"
"Wouldn't that be too much trouble for you?"
In Claire's eyes, Juno was practically a god!
But even gods needed to rest!
As she spoke, Claire's voice grew quieter, completely lacking confidence.
She had honestly started to realize the issue herself.
Once upstairs, Juno noted that the store's interior was upscale. Claire's taste was solid, and the clothes looked great.
The problem wasn't the merchandise; it was the marketing.
Seeing her boss arrive, the drowsy, relaxed sales associate scrambled to her feet, frantically smoothing out the wrinkles in her clothes. It was a flimsy, self-deceptive cover-up at best.
"It's fine, it's fine," Claire said considerately. "I know you're tired. I'm just here to check in, so don't be nervous."
The employee nodded in relief. "Okay."
Juno glanced at the clothes. "The people around here are mostly students. If you don't display the prices clearly, they won't even step inside."
Claire nodded, making a mental note of the advice.
"Do you have last month's ledger? Let me see it."
"Yes, we do!" the employee quickly chimed in.
She grabbed it from the drawer and handed it over.
Juno flipped through the pages. The sales volume wasn't an issue, so how could the business be losing money?
