Having a vague idea of what was going on, she walked over to a lounge chair and sat down, closing the ledger as she waited for the local schools to let out at five.
Seeing Juno fall silent, the employee looked at Claire inquiringly.
Claire shook her head, signaling her to leave it be.
The employee felt incredibly annoyed. Juno was lounging in *her* spot!
The clock's hands ticked on. About half an hour past five, students began flooding into the mall, making the place exceptionally lively.
Juno, who had been resting with her eyes closed, cracked an eyelid at the noise but didn't move from her chair.
The employee felt suffocated. Who was this girl? Just having her sitting there threw off the whole vibe of the store.
A short while later, quite a few people made their way to the second floor.
Three girls in high school uniforms strutted in. Their hair was dyed a dark purple, and their eyeliner was drawn out practically to their temples. They browsed around, picking things up and putting them down.
Wanting to look busy in front of her boss, the employee quickly trailed after them, eagerly explaining the details of every piece the girls touched.
Whenever they wanted to try something on, she fetched it immediately.
Throughout the entire process, neither Juno nor Claire said a single word.
Finally, after much chatter, the three girls finished trying things on and hesitantly asked about the price.
"I want this one. How much is it?"
"Three hundred," the employee replied.
"Give me a discount. Come on, I've been here before. I even brought two friends today to support your business."
The employee glanced at the other two girls, visibly swaying.
Fifty was all she was willing to pay.
The employee scowled. "Not for sale."
What was this kid thinking? Fifty dollars? Impossible!
Losing her patience, the girl shoved the employee. "Are you deaf?! Do you want me to trash this place? Go outside and ask around who I am! Who on this street doesn't show me respect?! Me buying your clothes is doing you a favor. With this cheap fabric, fifty is overpaying!"
Stumbling back, the employee bumped right into Juno.
A second later, Juno snatched the shirt right out of the girl's hand. "No discounts. You buy it, or you get out."
The icy authority in her voice caught the girl off guard. Realizing she wasn't going to get her way, she abandoned all pretense of politeness and flared up, though she was still a little intimidated by Juno. "I'm a student! What's wrong with giving me a discount?!"
Juno scoffed. "A student?" Her gaze grew predatory. "It wouldn't matter if you were an animal. Get out."
