Before Moira could step aside, Caelan stormed out of the room, his face dark. "Don't bother, Ms. Mercer. Before you showed up, my father might have been sick, but at least he wasn't crashing like this. And after you saw him? He vomited a terrifying amount of blood. Are you trying to kill him?!"
The senior physician followed him out, looking Juno up and down before letting out a cold scoff. "Too young and too arrogant to actually study medicine, so you resort to playing pretend. Well, look at the mess you've made."
Juno's expression was ice-cold. "I need to go in and check on him."
Her prescription had been flawless.
She highly suspected these idiots had tampered with it.
If she didn't examine the patient, she couldn't prove what went wrong.
Hearing Caelan and the physician's accusations, Margie's face hardened. "Since when do you get to talk to a member of the Corrington family like that?!"
Caelan wasn't having it. He stood tall, not backing down an inch. "Margie Corrington, do you think you're sitting in your own living room? Do you still think the whole world has to cater to you and stroke your ego?!
"Let me give you a reality check. My father took Juno's medication, and now he's dying. You two are prime suspects! You have zero right to order me around!
"Let me make this clear. If my dad doesn't make it, Harrison Corrington can come bail the two of you out of a jail cell!"
He spat the words out, veins bulging on his neck.
"Let's see who's giving my granddaughter a hard time!!"
The voice boomed, full of authority.
The underlying rage in those words was unmistakable.
Of course she was furious. Matilda had gotten all dressed up, waiting for Juno to take her home. She had even planned to have Juno stay at the Jagger estate for a couple of days. She hadn't anticipated this sudden disaster.
Juno hadn't even had the time to deal with her own family.
Left stranded at the hospital, the old lady was in no mood for pleasantries, especially not with the Chadwicks.
The Chadwicks certainly thought highly of themselves!
Caelan knew how to read a room. He wasn't about to pick a losing fight right now. "Matilda, please be reasonable. My father took Juno's medication and is now in critical condition. That is an undeniable fact. Throwing your weight around won't change that. I know the Jagger family is powerful, and we can't take you on in a corporate war, but we won't back down from the truth."
He neatly shifted the narrative, making it seem like the Jaggers were using their wealth to silence the victims.
"Hah." Jeremy Jagger's lips curled into a smirk. "Juno is the healer here. If something went wrong, she obviously can't walk away. But before you play judge and jury, shouldn't you let her go inside and examine the patient?"
Jeremy was terrifying when he dropped the pleasantries—there was a reason he was a titan in the business world.
He had a smile on his face, but there was something unnerving about it. "Didn't you hear what Juno just said? She wants to go in. Refusing her access makes it look like you're hiding something."
The physician stepped up. "What are you implying? Why would a respected family like the Chadwicks frame a little girl?"
Jeremy shifted his gaze to the doctor, his eyes dead and cold. "Did I give you permission to speak?"
