Hearing that and replaying Juno's exact movements in his head...
Damn, she really was incredible.
Juno unraveled the bandages from her hands, tossed them onto the floor, and immediately locked eyes with Rhiannon in the crowd.
She didn't make a sound, but she mouthed a single word clearly enough to read.
Trash.
.
Juno couldn't afford to miss any more classes. As much as Matilda hated to see her go, she understood that her granddaughter needed to prioritize her education.
Reluctantly, the old woman let her leave.
During physical education class.
The field was packed, mostly with guys running around.
When Juno and Claire Ashworth arrived, the guys discreetly stole glances at them.
At this age, they still hadn't mastered the art of hiding their crushes.
Girls who took the basketball elective generally fell into three categories.
One: Their boyfriend was in the class.
Two: They were looking for a boyfriend in the class.
Three: They actually knew how to play or were genuinely interested.
Juno and Claire belonged to the third category.
Standing tall and athletic, the two of them naturally stood out in the crowd of girls.
Rhiannon and her friends hadn't chosen this elective. They had been thoroughly humiliated over basketball recently, making it a dark stain on their social record.
Since it only brought back terrible memories, they weren't about to subject themselves to it again.
A moment later, a tall, striking figure walked onto the court.
The girls erupted into breathless whispers. "He's so handsome!! Is that our basketball teacher?!"
Juno followed the direction of their screams.
It was Chuck Yates.
His expression was icy, radiating an unapproachable distance.
That chilling aura made him look nothing like a teacher.
The girls huddled together, vibrating with excitement.
Claire glanced at Juno. "Since when is our advisor moonlighting as a gym teacher?"
Juno: ...
At first glance, Chuck was incredibly handsome.
Up close, holy hell, he was devastatingly gorgeous. It was almost unfair.
Kian's usual playful tone vanished. "He's poisoned."
"Poisoned?" Juno's pace slowed down.
Claire glanced back at her in confusion, but seeing Juno engaged in a serious call, she kept running.
Juno dropped into a walk, straining to hear every single word.
"Yeah. Remember when he got shot a while back?"
Juno searched her memory.
It was the time he mistook Janet Dempsey for her.
"Yes."
Kian continued, "The bullet from that incident was coated in the Yates family's H315. It didn't show up on the initial tests, but the toxins have been spreading recently."
H315 was a terrifying nerve agent.
The infected wouldn't show any symptoms initially, but as time passed, the poison would ravage their system.
First, they would lose their five senses.
Then, their limbs would go completely numb.
They would experience severe hallucinations.
And eventually, they would slip into a permanent coma.
