Juno stopped walking entirely. "Where's the cure?"
"Still looking."
Some of the Yates family's toxins didn't even have antidotes.
And those specific toxins were usually purchased from outside sources.
"Have Lucia Corbett mobilize the intelligence network to find it."
Kian paused, surprised. "Got it."
Just as Juno took out her earbud, Chuck walked over. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing," Juno replied softly.
Exactly as she feared, Chuck's reaction was delayed before he finally asked, "Are you sure?"
In that split second, it felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over her head.
All her strength vanished.
He was really slipping away.
Suddenly, a rogue frisbee came hurtling out of nowhere.
The normally razor-sharp Chuck didn't even register it.
Juno tried to dive in front of him, but she was too late. The frisbee sliced through the air and slammed directly into the side of Chuck's head.
He collapsed.
Juno threw herself onto the ground, cradling the back of his head in her hands, her fingers instantly coated in warm, sticky blood.
"Boss!"
Throwing caution to the wind, Miles sprinted over, abandoning his undercover role completely.
Together, they hoisted Chuck up and rushed him away. Before leaving, Juno shot a lethal glare at the student who had thrown the frisbee.
The boy was trembling, terrified by what he had just done.
Juno didn't waste another second and rushed after them.
The gym class abruptly ended right there.
The students stopped running, staring in shock as their teacher was carried off.
The guys were just trying to figure out what happened.
But the girls were already whispering.
"What's going on between Juno and the gym teacher? She practically threw herself at him when he went down."
"Tsk. The basketball teacher is her advisor. I was wondering why she acts so high and mighty—turns out she's got special connections."
"Ms. Corbett, it's done."
Lucia gave a sharp hum of approval. "Take off his blindfold."
The moment the fabric was ripped away, Lorcan squeezed his eyes shut against the harsh light. It took him a long time to adjust. When he finally focused on Lucia, he let out a cold sneer. "What's the meaning of this, Ms. Corbett?"
Lucia ignored him entirely. She set up a projector and dialed into an international video call. Moments later, a massive screen flickered to life, revealing a familiar face.
It was the woman Chuck had brought back.
Juno.
Lorcan leaned back in his chair. He was securely bound, but he didn't let it ruin his arrogant posture. "Given this grand performance, Ms. Mercer, I assume my dear brother's poison has finally taken hold."
"Smart. Then you know exactly why I dragged you here."
Juno's expression was terrifyingly cold.
"I'm never going to tell you. Otherwise, I'd have wasted perfectly good money paying those men to shoot him."
Lorcan looked at Juno like she was delusional.
Juno's face betrayed zero emotion. She didn't even look directly at him. "You refuse the easy way out. Fine."
Lorcan wasn't the least bit intimidated. He was the eldest son of the Yates family; what could the Obsidian Court actually do to him?
But if Lorcan didn't care, Juno cared even less. "Force the poison down his throat."
