Everyone's gaze was fixated on Sylvie's face.
It was too uncanny.
At first glance, she looked exactly like Juno.
Harrison even momentarily wondered if the hospital had thrown Sylvie out along with swapping Juno all those years ago.
The three Corrington brothers only took one look before looking away. Her features just lacked the distinct edge their sister possessed.
Juno had never looked that timid in her life.
Field's expression was grave. "I'll be blunt. My daughter was kidnapped by yours. During that time, Juno infiltrated my home under my daughter's identity with ulterior motives. We came here today to address this issue."
He huffed indignantly, adding, "We're not living among bandits, so why resort to kidnapping?!"
The word 'bandits' instantly struck a nerve with the Corringtons.
Margie, who was sipping her tea, slammed her cup down onto the table with a sharp clatter. "I really don't like the sound of that. Right or wrong aside, is that an appropriate way for an elder to speak?"
Field grimaced, caught off guard by the sharp retort.
Weren't the Corringtons supposed to be a family of refined scholars? Why were they all so aggressive?
Gordon quickly backed up his sister. "Exactly. Our family is in the wrong here, and compensation is a given. But I am highly dissatisfied with your choice of words, Mr. Sloane."
Field scowled. "For a family of your standing, your collective behavior hardly shows the grace expected of the most powerful house in Kingsland."
He wasn't here to pick a fight. He just wanted to grab his compensation and leave.
But the Corringtons were relentless, zeroing in on the word 'bandit' and refusing to let it go.
He had no choice but to swallow his pride. "My apologies. My phrasing was out of line."
Only after hearing his apology did Margie and the others begrudgingly let it slide.
Harrison exuded a natural, imposing authority. Every word he spoke carried weight. He looked directly at Sylvie. "Did Juno really kidnap you?"
Sylvie nodded weakly. "Yes."
"And after she tied you up, what did she do to you?" he pressed.
Sylvie fell silent.
After being knocked out by Juno's men, she had woken up in a spacious, immaculate room.
Every day, she was fed gourmet meals and given luxury clothes. She was utterly pampered.
Not only that, but knowing she was a senior in high school, Juno had hired private tutors for her.
Sharp, wild, and clearly not someone to be trifled with.
Seeing Juno, the Corringtons immediately shifted into a fiercely protective stance, eyeing Field as if he might lunge at her.
The completely innocent Field was left speechless.
What could I possibly even do to her?!
As Juno walked deeper into the room, Gwendolyn knew exactly what was about to happen. Looking at her daughter's fearless, rebellious demeanor, she knew Juno wouldn't admit fault even if she was wrong. She might even throw Field out of the house physically.
Anticipating the chaos...
Gwendolyn glanced at Sebastian. "Take your sister upstairs."
But Sebastian, who had always been the voice of reason, didn't move an inch. "Juno is the one involved in this. You shouldn't just listen to Mr. Sloane's one-sided story. If Juno didn't actually cross a line, forcing her out now would only allow them to unjustly drag her name through the mud behind her back. Wouldn't that be unfair to her?"
Field let out a humorless, exasperated laugh. "Unfair?! Juno's actions were utterly deranged! Right now, she only has the means to kidnap my daughter! If you keep indulging her like this, who knows what she'll do in the future?!"
By now, Juno had walked right up to him. She casually crouched down, pulled out her phone, and pulled up a security feed. She shoved the screen in his face. It clearly showed the captured members of the Sloane family tied up in a room—including his two highly prized sons.
Juno flashed a wicked, feral grin. "Ah, don't say that. Right now, I can't just kidnap your daughter."
The smile instantly vanished from her face as she delivered the second half of the sentence with deadpan seriousness. "I can kidnap your whole family."
