"Leave quietly."
With that heavy command, the silhouette behind the curtain disappeared.
Juno stood completely still.
The heavy double doors were pushed open. Lucia walked in, momentarily displaying her habitual respect before immediately reverting to her arrogant self. "Get out here."
You had to be careful with everything you did in the Yates estate.
Before leaving, Juno cast one last glance at the spot where Earle Yates had been standing.
Once they were outside Earle's compound, Lucia stopped and turned to her. "Balfour Lytton wants to see you."
There were no coincidences. Someone in the Yates family was likely passing information to Balfour.
"Let's go see him then."
...
The dungeon was damp, dark, and reeked of rot.
Lucia had already cleared out the guards beforehand.
Balfour's clean shirt was now torn to shreds, and his wounds had crusted over into a dark, sickening black.
His face was covered in stubble; the refined elegance from their first meeting was completely gone.
Hearing footsteps, Balfour weakly lifted his head. When he saw it was Juno, a flash of embarrassment crossed his eyes.
"I asked Lucia for a change of clothes, but she refused."
Juno stared at him coldly, taking a seat across from him.
When she didn't respond, a flicker of hurt crossed Balfour's face. "You're giving me the silent treatment."
There was only one thing she wanted to talk about.
She demanded coldly, "Where is the antidote for H315?"
Balfour's bruised face shifted slightly in the dim light. "It seems you still haven't remembered me."
Why did he keep obsessing over whether she remembered him?
Juno's eyes flickered. "We met when we were fifteen."
Just as she suspected, Balfour's expression changed. "You..."
His reaction was all the confirmation she needed.
Around fifteen years old.
She stood up and immediately walked out.
Balfour was left stunned.
"Hypnotize me."
Straight to the point.
Lucia stared at her like she had grown two heads. "Hypnotize you?"
"Yes. I need to re-experience my memories from when I was fifteen."
She had forgotten something crucial. She definitely must have met Balfour back then.
He kept obsessing over her memory, which meant the antidote was somehow tied to her past.
Lucia's expression darkened. "I'm a hypnotist, not a god. Your soul transferred into this body. The original host's brain doesn't hold your past memories. What good is hypnosis?"
Some things were purely metaphysical.
They defied logical explanation.
Juno had clearly already considered this. "That's exactly why I brought you here. Just answer me: can you do it or not?"
Lucia replied, "What if I scramble your brain and turn you into a vegetable?"
"Then we deal with it when I'm a vegetable."
Juno didn't wait for an answer. She walked over to the reclining chair, lay down, and locked her pitch-black eyes onto Lucia.
They stared each other down.
