The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 238

Eventually, Lucia caved.

Juno had ordered it anyway. If she ended up brain-dead, it would only benefit Lucia.

Without Juno, Lucia would take full control of the Obsidian Court.

Twenty minutes later, Lucia closed the door, leaving Juno alone inside in a deep trance.

Morgan was waiting in the hallway. "Is she under?"

"Yes."

Morgan let out a heavy sigh, frustration lacing his breath. He had arrived too late to stop her.

For Juno, her memories at fifteen were pitch black.

Pure agony.

The fact that she had so decisively chosen to undergo hypnosis... it was all for Chuck.

After a stretch of pure darkness, Juno's vision slowly began to clear.

It was summer.

The sound of cicadas echoed outside the window.

Waves of suffocating summer heat rolled through the air.

A teenage girl was slouched in a desk chair, her hair tied in a simple ponytail. Her school uniform fit perfectly, the sleeves rolled up to reveal slender, pale arms in the sweltering heat.

She had long legs, a narrow waist, and was sitting with a rebellious, careless posture as she organized a messy deck of tarot cards on the desk.

It was Juno.

Her long fingers expertly straightened out the cards, stacking them neatly.

A moment later, an energetic, bubbly girl bounded into the classroom, threw herself into the seat next to Juno, and chugged from Juno's water bottle without asking.

Before she had even caught her breath, she began excitedly gossiping.

Mandy's eyes were fixed on Juno, who looked as detached and desireless as a monk. "We got a new guy at school, and he is drop-dead gorgeous, I'm telling you! Do you know what his name is? Even his name sounds hot!"

"Chuck Yates."

Juno didn't even bother looking up, fully focused on shuffling her cards.

Mandy slapped the desk. "Wow! Who would've thought?! You always act so serious, but deep down, you're only interested in the hot guys."

The smack on the desk caused two of Juno's cards to fall to the floor.

"What do you mean?"

"Her past was very happy. But the card representing her present is The Empress, and it's reversed. It means everything she once had will be completely stripped away."

"That's awful. Don't tell me she loses her family just to be with Chuck."

Mandy was already writing a melodramatic romance novel in her head.

Juno frowned in thought. "I've never seen a spread like this."

"How come?"

"Looking at these cards, the girl essentially dies. But the future card is the Wheel of Fortune, upright."

It completely defied the catastrophic middle card.

She had never seen it before.

How could someone die and then come back to life?

Mandy couldn't understand a word of it and went back to her original question. "Do you think you'll end up with Chuck?"

Juno shook her head. "I have my sister looking out for me. My life won't be that tragic."
