The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 239

Mandy thought about it and nodded. Yeah, that made sense.

Tarot cards were creepy anyway.

Whatever, it had nothing to do with her.

After school, the two girls walked out of the gates together.

A short distance away, someone was lying on the ground wrapped in a blanket, while another person knelt beside them, begging on their knees for spare change.

Mandy sighed. "How are we supposed to help them?"

She hated seeing things like that.

Juno gave them a passing glance and looked away. "You could join them and start taking shifts."

Mandy was used to Juno's brutal sarcasm.

"Juno, I want to get some hot pastries."

Juno didn't say anything, but her body naturally followed Mandy down an alleyway.

It was a local street food market.

While they were waiting for their food, a massive commotion erupted down the street.

"Get out of the way!!! Don't let that little bastard escape!"

"Move, move!"

A violent mob sprinted down the street, knocking over stalls and shoving vendors aside. Some innocent bystanders even caught a few punches.

The mob was relentlessly chasing two teenage boys.

Mandy squinted. "Why does that guy in front look so familiar?"

He looked exactly like...

Before she could even finish the thought, the two boys sprinted past them.

Mandy's jaw dropped. "Holy shit... that's... that's Chuck Yates!"

What the hell did he do?!

Why was there a whole army after him?!

Juno completely spaced out her expression, listening as the chaotic footsteps grew closer.

As a massive thug sprinted past, Juno shot her arm out and grabbed his sleeve. "I'm legally blind. Is there a holiday parade going on?"

The thug looked at her like she was out of her mind and threw a punch right at her face.

No matter how much time passed, Mandy would never forget how insanely cool Juno was that day.

She couldn't figure out why Chuck was being hunted by so many people, but based on the vicious look in their eyes, they were going to beat him to death if they caught him.

What kind of deep-seated grudge was that?

Two or three quiet days passed. Mandy noticed something odd. "Juno, it's scorching outside, but Chuck is still wearing long sleeves."

Juno couldn't care less. "Yeah."

Mandy mumbled, "Doesn't he get hot?"

Maia Mercer had taught Juno to be kind.

So, when Juno saw Chuck being hunted down in an alleyway again, she stayed.

Except this time, she saw Chuck fight back.

With ruthless precision, Chuck grabbed a butcher knife from a nearby stall and slammed the blunt edge of the blade down onto a man's wrist.

"AAAAAHHHHH!"

Chuck planted his foot on the screaming man's chest, pinning him to the dirt. "Go back and tell Lorcan Yates that as long as I'm breathing, I'm going to kill him one day."

With that, he tossed the stolen knife onto the ground.
