The metal clattered sharply against the pavement.
Chuck's eyes were bloodshot, rimmed with a faint crimson.
A person's eyes only turned that red when they were pushed to the absolute edge of rage.
Juno stood at the mouth of the alley, her hands shoved deep into her pockets.
It was the first time she had ever seen a scene like that.
She lowered her gaze, her violently trembling eyelashes betraying her fear.
Even the hands buried in her pockets were shaking.
Why was he so brutal, so bloody?
She desperately wanted to run, but her feet felt glued to the concrete. She couldn't move.
As Chuck walked closer and closer, panic seized her chest.
She hoped he would just walk past her, pretending he hadn't seen anything, but instead, he stopped right in front of her.
In that moment, Juno's breathing hitched.
Why was he stopping?
Was he going to butcher her too?
Chuck stood there, watching her eyes dart around in sheer panic for a long time.
Finally, he spoke. "Hey."
Juno looked up at him.
His eyes were still lined with red.
She pressed her lips together tightly.
"I saw you yesterday. You blocked them for me."
Juno's throat felt like sandpaper. "Yeah. Don't worry about it."
The teenage Chuck radiated a suffocating, violent aura—the kind that screamed at everyone to stay away.
But to the girls at school, it just looked like he was playing hard to get.
Juno knew better. That aura was pure, unadulterated bloodlust.
Chuck suddenly smirked, a wild, untamed look in his eyes. He grabbed her arm and dragged her toward a small diner nearby.
Juno stumbled, forcibly pushed into the restaurant.
"Boss, we need to order!"
"Coming, coming!"
When the menu arrived, Chuck slid it across the table to her. "Order whatever you want."
Did Juno actually want to eat with him?
The cashier shot Chuck another highly judgmental look.
Juno casually stepped to the side. At fifteen, she was already quite tall, and her stance perfectly blocked the cashier's view of Chuck. "Can you hurry it up? I'm in a rush."
The cashier quickly processed the payment and handed back the change.
The exact details were blurry now, but Juno remembered one thing vividly.
The sky was so dark that day, she could barely make out Chuck's face.
After class, Mandy came sprinting into the room, absolutely buzzing with chaotic energy. She was practically tripping over her words as she pointed toward the door. "You... you gotta go... go look outside!"
"Look at what?"
Mandy was too frantic to explain. She just grabbed Juno's arm and dragged her out into the hallway.
When Juno stepped out, she saw Chuck.
It was the first time she had ever gotten a crystal-clear look at his face.
He was incredibly handsome.
He carried himself with an undeniable presence.
Like an aristocratic heir.
Mandy shoved Juno to the front of the crowd.
A second later, Chuck pulled a folded wad of cash from his pocket and tossed it right at Juno. "I don't need your damn charity."
