The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 264

Morgan and Tristan exchanged a look and were about to follow, but Lucia stopped them. "Wait up here. Let's see how this plays out first."

With Juno incapacitated, everyone was losing their minds.

Morgan and Tristan immediately stopped and positioned themselves behind Lucia.

When Harrison and Gwendolyn reached the bottom of the stairs, the foyer was already packed with strangers.

The group wore matching navy-blue uniforms, standing with their hands behind their backs. The man at the front held up a document bearing an official departmental seal. "We're here to seize the individual."

Aunt Margie was the first to object, rolling her eyes dramatically. "Seize who? Someone from our family? What garbage is written on that paper?"

"We are acting on orders from the Research Institute of Rothgard Country to detain her."

Margie was utterly relentless. "How fascinating! You think you can just waltz in and take whoever you want? Give me a valid reason, or you're not stepping one foot inside!"

Since when did a research lab get to act like a paramilitary force?

The young, pale-faced man leading the group remained expressionless. "The Institute suspects Ms. Mercer is a victim of soul transmigration. Such an anomaly is completely unprecedented. To prevent any unforeseen dangers, and for the safety of everyone in the Corrington family, we must take her into custody.

Whether or not this phenomenon has occurred can only be determined through examination. If the suspicion proves false, we will return your daughter unharmed."

If it was true, an entity like that couldn't be allowed to exist.

If such technology were mastered, the chaos it would unleash on the world would be unimaginable.

Uncle Gordon slammed his hand against a nearby table. "Absurd! You have no evidence! You want to drag away a member of our family for experimentation based on wild speculation?! She is a human being, not a laboratory rat!"

The two grandmothers were grinding their teeth in absolute fury. Juno's condition was already terrifyingly uncertain, and now these lunatics were causing a scene.

The man replied calmly, "If I'm not mistaken, your daughter fell into an unexplained coma and currently has no pulse."

Only corpses lacked a pulse.

Everyone present froze in shock.

The man and his team took the stairs instead of the elevator. The moment his foot hit the top landing, the cold, black barrel of a gun was pressed silently against his forehead.

Simultaneously, a red laser dot settled directly on his temple.

He looked up.

Standing before him was a relatively short woman wearing dark loungewear beneath an oversized coat.

Flanking her were two men radiating lethal intent.

They were the only three people in the entire house capable of doing severe damage.

She held the gun steady, her eyes dripping with icy murderous intent. "I have never met an idiot reckless enough to try and take someone right from under Lucia Corbett's nose."

The reigning authority of Blackwood City's Obsidian Court: Lucia Corbett.
