The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 268

She lay there completely unresponsive, looking more like a beautiful corpse than a living person.

Having watched the entire futile procedure, Kian's initial sliver of hope faded into crushing resignation.

When the heavy doors finally swung open, the anxious crowd waiting outside sprang to their feet.

Their eyes were filled with desperate hope.

Kian slowly shook his head.

No one wanted to believe it. Tears immediately spilled down Gwendolyn's face as she shook her head frantically. It couldn't be true!

Chuck's voice was dangerously low. "Did you check everything???"

Kian nodded heavily. "Yeah."

She was truly gone.

Just as the horrific reality was sinking in, something incredible happened.

One of the researchers screamed, "We have a pulse!!!"

The steady, rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor echoed through the room.

Kian practically threw himself back inside, followed closely by the rest of the medical team, and the heavy doors sealed shut once more.

Staring at the closed doors, Chuck finally exhaled, a profound weight lifting off his chest.

As long as she was alive.

As long as she came back to him.

Miles wiped the nervous sweat from his forehead.

Inside, Kian worked frantically alongside the researchers. After a dramatic spike in vitals, the monitors stabilized into a steady, healthy rhythm.

Drenched in sweat, his sharp eyes were locked onto Juno.

Her eyes shifted beneath her closed lids.

Kian held his breath.

Juno slowly fluttered her eyes open, blinking uncomfortably against the bright lights. After a brief moment, she clumsily pushed herself up into a sitting position.

Various sensors were still attached to her wrists. She looked down at her hands, flexing her fingers as if they belonged to a complete stranger.

Her throat was dry, and her eyes held a painfully naive innocence. "Hello, could I get a glass of water, please?"

That single, polite sentence sent Kian spiraling into an abyss of despair.

Juno was never that polite.

Worse, the voice carried a distinct, somewhat rural dialect.

The researchers exchanged confused glances, though one hurried over with a cup of water.

Kian's face turned ashen. He opened his mouth to speak but couldn't make a sound. Without another word, he turned and walked out.

The electronic doors slid open, and Kian stepped into the hall.

Chuck surged forward, entirely abandoning his usual composure. "Well?"

Before Kian could answer, Chuck looked past him and saw Juno sitting on the examination table, drinking water.

He let go of Kian and strode confidently into the room.

The researchers scrambled out of his way.

But he had barely taken two steps before he froze. Even from a distance, he instantly knew the person sitting there wasn't her.

The woman shrank into herself and mumbled nervously, "Hello."

That timid, cowering demeanor struck the two older women like a physical blow, rendering them entirely speechless.

What had happened to her?

Her entire personality had completely flipped!

Standing at the door, Morgan couldn't stomach it for another second. He turned on his heel and walked away.

Tristan hurried after him. "Where are you going? LORD finally woke up, aren't you happy?"

Morgan didn't even break his stride, his expression terrifyingly dark. "That isn't LORD!"

LORD would never act like that!

Back inside, the room was packed to the brim with family members.

Having never stepped foot inside, Lucia stood by the door, quietly listening to the chaotic exchange.

From where she was seated, she couldn't actually see what was happening.

Refusing to believe something was wrong, Margie reached out to grab the woman's arm. The woman panicked and flinched away, burying her face into Gwendolyn's embrace.

She was terrified of her.

Margie was utterly bewildered. "I'm your aunt. Juno? Don't you recognize me?"

The woman replied weakly, "I do."

Margie looked stunned. If she recognized her, why was she so scared?

Still observing from the outside, Lucia furrowed her brow as she evaluated the situation. She muttered to herself, "What exactly just woke up in her body?"
