The True Heiress: Legend Mode novel Chapter 277

Kian finished dressing the wound and stepped back.

Juno remained silent, idly flipping through the stack of papers with one hand.

The medical wing was dead silent, save for the dry rustle of turning pages.

Every time a page flipped, it felt like a blade scraping against the researchers' nerves.

A slow, agonizing torture.

They instinctively held their breath, terrified of making a sound.

She was here to settle the score.

Juno skimmed the files, quickly grasping the gist of their contents.

Resting her hand on her knee, she spoke in a tone utterly devoid of emotion, like she was just making casual conversation. "You wanted to run experiments on me?"

The senior researcher—the mentor to the other nineteen people present—stepped forward. "Not completely experiments. Our primary goal was to save you, Ms. Mercer. And clearly, our efforts were successful. You did wake up, didn't you?"

He looked directly into Juno's eyes as he delivered that last line.

Juno turned the words over in her head. "So I should be thanking you."

The senior didn't flinch, maintaining a posture of calm confidence. "I wouldn't presume."

"Heh."

Juno let out a cold, hollow laugh. "What exactly made you think my soul had been swapped?"

The researchers exchanged bewildered looks. Didn't the data in those files make it perfectly obvious?

None of the subordinates dared to speak up, leaving the senior to answer. "It is documented very clearly in the files you're holding, Ms. Mercer."

Juno's eyes narrowed, a lethal aura suddenly erupting from her as she hurled the heavy stack of files straight at him.

Before the senior could even react, the thick stack of papers slammed brutally into his face.

A sharp burst of agony flared across the bridge of his nose.

Backing down meant admitting they were wrong.

"Kian Zimmer is an internationally renowned doctor!" the disciple shot back. "If it was a simple medical anomaly, there's no way he wouldn't have diagnosed it!"

Kian, who had been quietly standing by, answered with lighting speed, "I'm a hack."

It was beautifully abrupt.

"Dr. Zimmer, are you seriously willing to destroy your own reputation just to cover for her?"

For a doctor, reputation was everything.

A single misstep could ruin a career.

Who would ever trust him to treat them again?

Was Kian really willing to go that far for Juno?
