At the very top of the altar, Finlay was smiling at first. But little by little, the smile on his face began to stiffen.

He had wanted to use this public gathering to show everyone his kind and generous side. But the beastfolk below were rough, loud, and hot-tempered. Once they got furious, they did not care who they were talking to.

The atmosphere he had worked so hard to build vanished in an instant.

Finally, Finlay could not keep pretending any longer. He stood up violently and shifted into his beast form. A huge, heavy brown bear roared from the highest point of the altar.

The bear was enormous. Its four thick legs barely fit on the edge of the platform. It looked like it might fall off at any second.

Then the giant bear rose onto its hind legs. Its massive front paws slammed hard against its chest.

BAM!

The sound exploded across the entire square.

Right after that, Finlay roared, “Shut up!”

His voice was deep and powerful. It echoed around the altar and crashed into every beastfolk’s ears. The deafening roar shook their whole bodies.

Some low-level beastfolk collapsed on the spot. Blood even dripped from their ears. They had clearly been hurt by the sound.

Still, the roar worked perfectly. The angry shouting from moments ago disappeared completely.

The beastfolk stared at the furious brown bear with wide eyes. Nobody dared say another word.

The huge altar square fell silent. Only Finlay’s heavy breathing remained. White mist poured from his mouth and nose and hung in the freezing air for a long time.

Marcus was the closest to him, but his level was high enough that he was not hurt. Claire, however, felt a sharp ringing in both ears.

She saw Marcus grabbing her arm anxiously. His soft lips moved quickly as he spoke to her, but she could not hear a single word. All she heard was the loud buzzing in her ears.

When Marcus got no response from her, he became even more worried. He almost picked her up and rushed off the altar.

Claire quickly leaned close to his ear and whispered, “I’m fine. I just can’t hear right now. It should go away soon. Don’t do anything reckless. Otherwise Finlay will use it as an excuse to target us.”

The altar was packed with beastfolk. There had to be over ten thousand of them. And most of them listened to Finlay. If they angered the crowd, even one finger from each beastfolk would be enough to crush her and Marcus right there.

If only Zane and Rufus were here too.

With just her and Marcus alone, they were badly outnumbered.

Thinking of that, Claire gently touched the little green snake wrapped around her wrist. The cold, smooth scales calmed her down a little.

Davy had no idea how much help he could really be. If only his strength would recover faster.

Hearing her words, Marcus finally relaxed a little. Even so, he still held Claire’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

A moment ago, Claire’s breathing had suddenly turned uneven. Finlay’s roar had clearly shaken her badly.

Marcus blamed himself. He should have pulled Claire into his arms and covered her ears right away. But everything had happened too fast. He never expected Finlay to suddenly roar in front of the entire crowd of beastfolk just to scare everyone into silence.

Claire shook her head lightly. Other than not being able to hear clearly for the moment, she felt fine.

She had seen the beastfolk collapsed on the ground below. Finlay’s roar had injured some of the strong young males. Compared to them, a little ringing in her ears really wasn’t that bad.

It seemed her Level 2 female body had grown much stronger too.

She really needed to eat more spirit herbs and magical fruit from now on.

Still, the fact that Finlay could badly injure other beastfolk with just one roar proved how terrifyingly powerful he was.

That only made Claire more certain that she should avoid provoking Finlay. At least until she became stronger, she needed to stay low-key.

She raised her eyes slightly and stared at the massive brown bear while thoughts raced through

her mind.

Which weapon from her storage space, the Gatling gun or the sniper rifle, could seriously injure Finlay?

Killing him outright was probably impossible.

If she still had one anti-tank shell left, maybe it would be worth trying.

But then again, even Jeffrey had only lost half his body from that blast. Finlay was even larger and far tougher than Jeffrey. Bringing down a giant bear like him would be even harder.

As Claire quietly searched for Finlay’s weak points, Zane below the platform came to the same conclusion.

“I didn’t expect him to be this strong,” he murmured softly. “He’s probably at the peak of Level 3. He’s definitely not an enemy we can underestimate.”

Rufus frowned deeply too.

More and more powerful fighters kept appearing, and it made him feel weaker each time.

Back in the eagle clan, he had always been the strongest warrior. Even after joining the fox clan, aside from the monster named Zane, he had still been among the best.

But now, his Level 2 beast mark no longer seemed impressive. He glanced at Claire leaning against Marcus. His eyes darkened slightly.

If he didn’t grow stronger soon, there might no longer be a place for him by Claire’s side.
