Chapter 357 Adoptive Father
Claire suddenly remembered that she still needed to check on Burrow’s injured leg today. Maybe-just maybe-it could still be saved.
Seeing that both of them were busy, she figured it was probably time to bring a few more helpers into the household.
“Honestly, I can go by myself. I’m not leaving the clan,” Claire said.
Zane shook his head right away.
“No. Quentin already found signs that a strange beastfolk got inside the clan before. We still don’t know whe it was, and the scent disappeared. I can’t leave you without someone by your side. I’ll go with you.”
But if he leaves, who is going to watch all these younglings?
Even though all they do these days is sleep, they still need formula several times a day.
Especially Skyrion. In just a few days, the unique little one had already grown much bigger than when he was born. His wings had started growing feathers, and at every feeding, he drank twice as much formula as the other babies!
With a human face and a bird’s body, Skyrion stood out among the younglings.
Claire walked over and gently tapped the tip of Skyrion’s tiny nose. The little one opened his big eyes and burst into sweet little giggles that sounded exactly like a human baby.
She kept playing with the youngling while speaking to Zane.
“If you leave, what if Davy can’t handle both groups of younglings by himself?”
After all, Marcus’s beastlings were at the age where they were the most mischievous. They couldn’t really understand what anyone said yet. There were so many of them, and they were lightning fast. Look away for a second, and they’d already run off somewhere else.
Zane glanced toward Claire’s treehouse.
“Then wake Marcus up. His younglings, his job.”
Claire couldn’t help smiling. Zane had a point!
Served him right for not knowing when to stop last night!
Sure enough, before Claire and Zane left, Marcus was awakened by the noisy little troublemakers.
Standing at the doorway, Zane said, “Take good care of the younglings. Claire and I are heading out.”
Then, before Marcus could do more than stare in shock, Zane leaped from the tree, scooped Claire into his
arms, and took off.
Inside the treehouse, Marcus had just been pulled from a wonderful dream. He rubbed the animal-hide clothes he was wearing as the younglings bounced and shouted from every corner of the room. Then he

“Come on, little ones. Can’t you stay quiet for just a little while? Let me close my eyes for a few more minutes!”
The only answer he got was several panda cubs climbing onto his back and happily jumping up and dow
As usual, Claire and Zane first stopped by Corvin’s place to check on the younglings.
Even though the words Corvin said in her ears last night were still burned into her mind, Claire didn’t wa to miss a single chance to grow closer to the younglings.
As for what he had said about becoming her beast mate… She’d just treat it like a joke for now.
Inside the nest, the nine-headed ghost bird was the first to notice Claire had arrived. All nine heads turne toward her at once, and all 18 eyes sparkled with excitement.
It hurried

Corvin continued, “What about me? They’re close to me too. So… what does that make me?”
Claire froze. What’s going on?

Corvin said it… Why does it sound like he wants to make it official?
Her mind went completely blank. Come on, brain! Think!
Pome quickly offered a suggestion. “Master, if the younglings are attached to Corvin too, you could always take him as your beast mate. Just look at those eyes. He’s been waiting forever.”
Claire stole another glance before snapping back in her mind. “What are you talking about? He’s obviously glaring at me!”

Master, you could also use a little evening primrose…”
Oh, shut it, Pome! Are you saying my eyesight’s bad? Corvin is so gloomy and sickly-looking. I can someone like him!”
“You can!”
“No, I can’t!”
“You can!”
Claire continued arguing with Pome in her head and completely missed the answer Zane had alread
Zane said, “You? You’re neither the younglings’ biological father nor Claire’s beast mate. But since you hatched them and raised them, I guess you could barely count as their adoptive father
