The Ultimate Litter: A Beast World System Tale novel Chapter 248

Chapter 248 Missing One Female

Thinking back to the look of surprise and-joy in Rufus’s eyes when he first saw the longsword-its bo completely black, with only a thin streak of white light shining along the blade-Claire knew she had it to the right person.

They had only just said goodbye, and she already missed him-the man who looked cold on the outs yet burned like fire underneath.

Claire sat on the silver wolf’s back, one hand resting softly over her lower belly.

Inside, a second litter of Rufus’s cubs was already growing.

“Little ones, you’ve got to be born safe and sound. Don’t make Rufus suffer like that again…”

The silver wolf beneath her was warm and soft, its thick white fur like a blanket. She sat there, swingin feet in ease.

A giant panda stood nearby, its head even higher than Claire’s. On its back hung four animal-hide pack each filled with soft, whining cries of newborn cubs.

Only after the silhouette of the gyrfalcon vanished into the sky did Claire pat the silver wolf and say,

“Zane, let’s go. To the eagle clan.”

They were already close to the eagle clan’s territory-at most, another three to five days on the road.

But they still needed to make a detour through nearby clans to find a safe place for Matilda and the othe to settle.

Zane turned, and Claire saw Eva holding Matilda’s arm affectionately, with six other Level 2 female beastfolk following behind them.

“Wait. We’re missing one,” Zane said. There were only eight females in sight now. Where had the other on gone?”

Only then did Claire notice it too.

Matilda frowned and looked back over her shoulder, her brows tightening as she scanned the group again

“Damn… It’s Gillian. She’s gone. Oh no..”

She stood there, flustered, not knowing what to do.

She had only just promised Claire she would keep an eye on everyone, and now, not even half a day later

Gillian had vanished.

She couldn’t get rid of the feeling that she’d let Claire down.

“Think a beast could’ve dragged her off?” Claire frowned, turning the thought over.

Someone just vanishing like that, right in front of them-it was hard not to imagine the worst.

“What?” Eva gasped, covering her moul

Matilda slapped her hand against her thigh in frustration, anger flaring in her chest.

“That restless troublemaker… we never should’ve let her leave the forest if we knew she wasn’t going to change.”

Now she was chasing after the beast mate of her savior. Anyone could see what she’s up to. (Marcus definitely did.)

It was a disgrace to their kind.

Matilda couldn’t even bring herself to look up anymore. She couldn’t face Claire.

A breeze moved across the open land. Claire tilted her head toward the cloudless sky. Rufus was already long gone, and Gillian was even less likely to be found.

She let out a long sigh.

“Forget it. Let her go. If Rufus really can’t resist her…”

The thought squeezed something tight in her chest. The odds were barely even one percent, but still- what if? What if loneliness got the better of him, and he gave in to Gillian?

Γ

“If that happens, he doesn’t deserve to be my sister’s mate anymore. I’ll take care of it myself. My sister can do whatever she wants with him-even killing him would be the cleanest option.”

Marcus’s voice stayed light, almost sweet, but there was a quiet edge of killing intent underneath.

If that bird guy really did something like that, Marcus would never let it slide. Even if Claire showed mercy, he wouldn’t.

Zane stayed silent. He actually had quite a bit of confidence in Rufus.

Claire just smiled and rested a hand over her belly.

“Mm. That would be fine too.”

If it came to that, she’d keep the kids and let the father go. She could raise them on her own-maybe e find a few new inates down the line.

That wouldn’t be so bad either.

Her smile kept stretching wider and wider, almost ear to ear, while a single, totally unconvincing tear sli down the corner of her mouth.

“Eva, Matilda, I don’t blame you. Gillian is an adult. She should be responsible for her own actions.”

Eva jumped up in excitement.

“Really? Claire, you’re the best! I like you so much! If I were a male beastfolk, I’d do everything I could t become your mate!”

She waved her arms wildly, her flexible body bending in ways that didn’t seem possible.

Claire laughed, amused. If Eva had been back in the modern world, that kind of flexibility alone would’ made her a standout ballet dancer.

Her rabbit ears bounced with every movement, making her look ridiculously adorable.

“Alright then. With how cute you are, I wouldn’t mind that

at all.”

Truth was, she didn’t mind a sapphic either.
