The Ultimate Litter: A Beast World System Tale novel Chapter 254

Chapter 254 Lynx Clan

Judging by the position of the sun, it was already noon. Five days had passed since they rescued Burro and the others from the lions.

As they traveled, the forest gradually thinned, and the vegetation and shrubs became increasingly yell and withered. Eventually, even the rivers dried up, leaving behind a bleak, desolate landscape.

From her elevated position, Claire could see far into the distance and soon spotted several houses buil from stacked stone.

“Zane, look over there. I think that’s a clan!”

Zane nodded. “It is. We can reach it in less than half a day.”

The beastfolk quickened their pace and finally reached the edge of the clan just as the sun was beginnin

to set.

The clan was tiny, with only a dozen or so stone houses.

Claire stood at the edge of the clan and waited for a while, but she didn’t see any beastfolk moving aroun so she called out, “Hello? Is anyone here?”

The clan remained completely silent. There wasn’t so much as a sound.

Claire waited a little longer. When no beastfolk appeared, she exchanged a look with Zane, and they entered the clan together.

Only a few loose stones and pieces of firewood lay outside the stone houses.

Claire entered the nearest house. The small room was completely bare, without any food or water.

A beastfolk lay on the ground, still wrapped in the thick fur tunic worn during the winter, but his cheeks were deeply sunken.

“Someone’s in here!”

Claire cried out and crouched beside him.

He was a male beastfolk. His lips were cracked and peeling, his eyes were sunken, and his dry, lifeless hair had lost all its shine. His exposed hands still clutched a short branch covered in bite marks, with every scrap of bark stripped away.

“Did he starve to death?” Zane asked with a frown.

Claire checked the pulse in his neck, then exclaimed in relief, “He’s still alive.”

But his pulse was extremely weak, and he was barely hanging on. If they had arrived even half a day later, the beastfolk would have been dead.

Zane gently helped him sit up, lifted a water pouch to his lips, and gave him a small sip. Once his lips were moistened, he held a piece of raw meat to the stranger’s mouth.

The beastfolk’s parched throat was finally soothed by the water, and when he smelled food, he insting opened his mouth and bit down.

At first, he thought it was another hallucination. That had happened many times before, but the textu his mouth told him this was real meat.

The beastfolk grabbed the meat with both hands and devoured it ravenously.

His eyes finally opened. His brown pupils slowly came into focus, and he stared at the fresh meat in hi hands.

“Meat… It’s meat… There’s finally something to eat…”

He swallowed the entire piece in only a few bites, then looked up ft Claire and Zane with a pleading expression.

Claire took out a larger piece of meat and handed it to him.

The unfamiliar beastfolk was ecstatic. He grabbed it and immediately began tearing into it.

As he stuffed meat into his mouth, he mumbled his thanks.

“Fank you… Fank you boff…”

Afraid he might choke to death, Claire quickly handed him the water pouch.

“Slow down. There’s no rush!”

It took half an hour before he finally finished eating/and drinking.

Meanwhile, the other beastfolk found more than 20 people in the remaining stone houses, all of them emaciated and barely alive.

Claire gave them clean water and meat, feeding them one by one.

The first beastfolk they had found looked gratefully at Claire and Zane and said, “Thank you! My name is Garen Ross, and I’m a lynx beastfolk. It’s embarrassing to admit, but we’re only a very small lynx clan, and we didn’t have much food stored. We ran out with a month still left in the winter, then survived on roots and bark for a while. If you hadn’t arrived when you did, I would’ve died!”

Claire nodded.

“The trees and vegetation around the clan are very sparse. Since the environment here is so harsh, why haven’t you moved somewhere else?”

Garen braced one hand against the ground and stood up. He was about five feet eleven, little more than skin and bone, and his hair was as dry as dead grass. At her question, he gave a helpless smile.

“Our clan has lived here for generations, so this is what we’re used to. This year’s cold season was much harsher than usual. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have gone through our food so quickly. Luckily, the winter ended and the weather warmed up, so we didn’t freeze to death. We just ran out of food and water and nearly starved instead. Heh.”

teeth left, couldn’t even swallow water, and lay there with his eyes half closed, barely

The moment Garen saw the elderly beastfolk, he rushed over, dropped to his knees beside him, and cried “Chief, please drink some water and eat some meat! You have to eat if you want to survive.”

The elderly beastfolk shook his head. His lips moved, and his voice came out in broken fragments.
