Claire was certain ne one would believe her. And even if someone did, she wasn’t afraid.

The reason she felt so confident was the sweet potatoes she had discovered today.

There weren’t many edible plants in the Beast World, but they were absolutely necessary.

During the warm season it was manageable. Plants grew thick and lush, and with enough effort they could gather barely enough fruit to get by.

So Claire was sure that once she told everyone about the sweet potatoes, more clan members would stand on her side.

She pointed to her mouth and reminded Fiona with a smile, “Don’t forget who has the black mark on her tongue. Go ahead and keep dreaming, Fiona.”

Claire grabbed Zane’s hand and was about to leave when Fiona rushed forward and spread her arms to block them.

“You’re not going anywhere!”

Before she finished speaking, a strong arm dragged her aside.

Gavin, his greasy face shining in the moonlight, half threatened and half coaxed her.

“Fiona, I’m already your beast mate. My five brothers and I will take good care of you. We’ll make sure you’re satisfied. Come on, today’s our bonding day. The brothers all agreed. Tonight, you’re mine.”

Fiona tried to shake him off in disgust, but her strength was nothing against his.

Back at the cave, following Claire’s instructions, Zane quickly hollowed out a massive tree trunk into the shape of a bathtub and smoothed the inside until it was perfectly polished.

Zane carried the tub to the river with one hand to fill it. On the way back he used both arms, but his speed didn’t slow at all.

He was incredibly strong.

He lowered himself into the water and scrubbed his body with soap pods, especially his left arm. He rubbed it for at least twenty minutes until it was bright red.

“Okay, okay, it’s clean enough. Fiona’s scent is long gone.”

Claire pressed down on his right hand when he tried to keep scrubbing.

So Zane had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.

“She touched here,” Zane said quietly, worried Claire might be disgusted.

Claire squeezed his left palm and smiled sweetly.

“I don’t mind. You’ve practically scrubbed off a layer of skin. You’re already pale. If you soak any longer, you’ll be glowing tomorrow. You might blind me.”
