He was right. She had Zane and Marcus beside her now. Davy might not officially be her beast mate yet, but if she were ever in danger, he certainly wouldn’t stand by and do nothing.

Feathers were tucked into their hair, beast hides were wrapped around their waists, and sharpened wooden spears were gripped in their hands as they watched Claire’s group warily.

Several eagles and falcons circled overhead, occasionally letting out piercing cries.

“Where did you beastfolk come from? What are you doing in eagle clan territory?”

Claire had been tense, but the moment she heard that, a smile spread across her face.

“You’re from the eagle clan? My name is Claire Harris. My beast mate belongs to your clan. His name is Rufus Soto.”

“I’m Quentin Chavez, captain of the eagle clan guards and one of Rufus’s closest friends!”

Claire was sitting on Zane’s back and wondering how to climb down when she suddenly felt herself drop. Before she could panic, Zane shifted into human form and caught her in his

arms.

She reached out and briefly shook hands with the young beastfolk named Quentin.

The eagle clan truly lived up to its reputation as a large clan. Even its beastfolk had such good

manners.

Quentin was tall, with long legs and a lean build. His prominent hooked nose didn’t look awkward on his face. Instead, it gave him a striking, exotic appeal.

His features were sharply defined, and he kept studying Claire with open curiosity until she began to feel self-conscious.

Zane frowned and coughed. Still carrying Claire in his arms, he subtly pressed her face against his chest, instinctively unwilling to let Quentin keep staring.

Only then did Quentin look up at Zane, and amazement flashed through his eyes again.
