Aurora took Matilda’s hand like they were old friends, her tone especially warm. “You and I are about the same age, so don’t be so formal! From now on, you’re part of the eagle clan. Welcome! Come on, let’s pick out some tree houses for you.”

Aurora led Matilda and the others away.

Claire and Kieran walked slowly behind them.

Claire hesitated for a moment. She’d actually saved that one for Davy. After all, he would soon become her beast mate, so he should be treated equally.

Davy had almost fallen for it, but luckily he caught himself in time.

Pome nodded silently. Good. He’s finally getting it!

Claire refused without hesitation.

“No. I need some private space.”

Davy was confused. “Private space? What’s that?”

“Pome, explain,” Claire ordered calmly.

“Got it!”

Pome immediately dragged Davy off for a private lesson.

Claire had Marcus and Zane carry the younglings into their tree houses. The two males had to stay in their human forms inside the tree houses, and the younglings were still small, so there was enough room for everyone.

She wasn’t sure if that would still be the case once the younglings got bigger, especially Marcus’s tree house. Fifty-one younglings might end up stacked three or four layers deep.

“Well, never mind. We’ll just move them to bigger tree houses when they’re older,” Claire said.

Marcus nodded in agreement.

“Yeah. Once my younglings are a little older, I’ll have them live in another tree house. It’ll help them become independent sooner!”

That way, he’d have more time to spend with Claire.

Zane shot him a side-eye. Marcus’s intentions couldn’t have been more obvious..

Claire stood outside her own tree house, admiring her handiwork. She had hung sheer white curtains from her storage space over the windows. They provided privacy while still letting the sunlight in.
