Chapter 356 Dad’s the Strongest Ever

Bac cradled the opal and spun around in happy circles.

“This has to be a present from Fairy Sister! Yay! She really does like me, and she left one just for me!”

Her adorable laughter rang through the forest like little silver bells.

Suddenly a rustling came from behind a thicket not far off.

Bae’s ears twitched, and her laughter stopped dead. She called out in a small voice, “Who… who’s there?

Every word shook with fear. Her big dark eyes darted around, and her paws clutched the opal tight.

A saber-toothed tiger burst out from behind the thicket and lunged straight at her.

Its two fangs jutted out like blades, each one as long as Bae’s entire body.

It roared as it came, its eyes glinting with the bloodthirsty certainty that this kill was already its own.

It was the terrible look a predator gives its prey.

It knew perfectly well the little thing was a beastfolk, but the young ones couldn’t put up much of a fight, and it had made a meal of them plenty of times before.

Bae stared at the saber-toothed tiger that had appeared out of nowhere, too panicked to know which way to

run.

She grabbed the opal with one of her tails, but she’d barely gotten her four paws moving before the saber- toothed tiger loomed over her and cut off every direction at once.

“Dad! Dad, save me, save me! I’m so scared!”

The terrified cry burst out of Bae, and she squeezed her eyes shut.

The saber-toothed tiger sneered and lowered its head to snap the little thing’s neck.

At the last possible second, a huge brown snake 20 feet long came hurtling in and wrapped itself right around the saber-toothed tiger.

Before the saber-toothed tiger could react, the snake lashed its tail and twisted the big cat up like a pretzel.

It didn’t even have time to cry out before the crisp snap of breaking bone filled the air.

The long snake and the saber-toothed tiger toppled to the ground together, still tangled up.

When the savage beast’s bite still hadn’t come after a long moment, Bae opened her eyes to find her father right there in front of her.

“Dad! You really came to save me! Yay! Dad’s the strongest ever!”

The cobra reared up and looked down at his cheerful daughter, none too pleased.

And she’d nearly gotten herself killed doing it.

The cobra’s voice thundered. “I told you over and over not to come out here! Why won’t you listen? If d gotten here a minute later, you-you would’ve…”

He couldn’t bear to follow that thought any further.

Getting yelled at didn’t scare Bae one bit. She ran over instead, wrapped all four paws around the cobra body, and rubbed her head against those cool scales.

“Dad, don’t be mad at me! I know Dad loves me more than anything. Dad’s the best father in the whole Beast World, and the strongest one too! No matter what danger I’m in, Dad will always come save me. Dad…

Her babyish sweet talk melted the cobra’s anger on the spot.

The cobra slowly curled the rest of his tail around Bae and started carrying her back toward the den.

“What am I supposed to do with you? Even so, you really can’t come out here alone again. It’s too dangerous, and you’re still too little.”

Bae covered her mouth and snickered, because last time, and the time before that, her father had said the exact same thing.

When Bae saw the saber-toothed tiger on the ground getting farther and farther behind them, she pointed back at it urgently.

“Dad, Dad, meat! Meat!”

The cobra didn’t slow down for a second as he answered, “I’m taking you home first, and then I’ll come back out and get it. Don’t worry, you’ll get your share. Now, do you remember what I just told you?”

“I remember…”

The forest echoed with their happy back-and-forth.

In the eagle clan, Claire woke up in the crook of Marcus’s arm.

She pushed herself upright, popped a strength pill into her mouth out of habit, and only then pried Marcus’s thigh off her.
