Elodie drifted off into thoughts of a bright future, a smile lingering on her face.
Rufus stood beside the stone bed. The newborns lay packed together, fast asleep. One after another, they breathed softly. They looked so small. So cute.
If only he could have a whole litter like this too.
The thought made him glance at Claire, who had already fallen asleep from exhaustion. His chest tightened a little.
Zane was beside her, quietly cleaning her. He wiped her down, loosened her hair, and dried it gently. He didn’t mind the blood at all. He cleaned everything carefully.
The fur beneath Claire was soaked with sweat. Zane replaced it with a fresh, dry one. His movements were light and careful. He didn’t wake her.
Claire was deep in a dream.
In her dream, seven glowing lights danced around her. In the blink of an eye, they turned into twelve tiny figures. They crawled across the ground and toward her.
Claire just stared, confused, as they climbed onto her and nudged against her.
They made soft little sounds as they moved.
For some reason, she understood them.
They were calling her, “Mom.”
She finally realized. These were her children.
She gathered them in her arms and hummed softly, rocking them to sleep.
The dream went on for a long time.
When Claire woke up, it was already night.
And the cave was complete chaos.
“Eeeehh!”
“Awoo!”
The babies cried one after another, forming a messy, loud chorus.

Rufus and Zane rushed back and forth. One moment here, the next moment there. It felt like they needed four hands each.
Rufus held a baby in each hand and shouted, “Zane! Hurry! That big black one is squishing the red fox! Go grab it!”
Zane quickly set down the baby he had been cleaning and rushed over. He rescued the little red fox just in time.
Luckily, it hadn’t been pinned long. It was fine.
Zane nudged the big black pup aside with a finger.
“Why are you already bigger than the others? Did you eat too much before you were born?”
Claire took one look and recognized it. That was the mutated giant black wolf the system had mentioned.
Zane was already huge in his beast form. She couldn’t even imagine how big this one would
grow.
Right now, it was already twice the size of its siblings.
“Zane! Clean that white one! And this one too–it just pooped! Hey, don’t pee on my hand! HEY! ZANE! I’M GONNA GET YOU FOR THIS!”
Rufus was losing it.
When they were asleep, the babies were adorable. They melted his heart. But awake? They were little imps.
In such a short time, he and Zane were already sweating all over.
Even though Elodie had carefully explained how to take care of them, the two of them simply couldn’t keep up.
“Zane… maybe we should find Claire another mate…”
The idea suddenly popped into Rufus’s head.
Zane glanced at him and smirked.
“You’d be okay with that?”
Rufus was torn.

They had just bonded not long ago. The thought of Claire bonding with someone else made his chest feel tight.
“But we can’t handle all these babies,” he muttered, almost in tears.
He had faced the fiercest beasts in the forest without fear.
But this? This was worse.
“Stop talking and help,” Zane said. “Keep them quiet so Claire can sleep longer.”
Even now, Zane cared most about Claire.
Claire watched them for a while. When her mind fully cleared, she finally spoke.
“Bring the babies over. They’re probably hungry.”
Just hearing their cries made her body react.
Zane set the baby in his hands aside and hurried over.
“Are you hungry? You should eat first before feeding them. It’s fine if they wait a little.”
Claire knew he was worried about her. She smiled.
“I’m okay. I’ll do both at the same time.”
As soon as she finished speaking, her body shifted. She turned into a golden fox and stretched her body.
It had been a long time since she used her beast form. She had missed it.
She hadn’t been able to change while she was pregnant. It had driven her crazy.
