Chapter 63 The Blessing of the Beast God
Claire felt the weight of his stare and kept fussing with her hair.
Finally, she couldn’t take it.

“Zane, if you’ve got something to say, just say it! You’re staring at me like that, and it’s giving me goosebumps!”
Zane finished wiping the last wolf pup’s face, gave it a gentle nudge, and moved closer to Claire.
“I’ve noticed you always find a way to feed the pups. I was worried they couldn’t handle beast meat yet, and I was about to brave the snow to hunt something softer. But between the formula and the sweet potatoes, you’ve made me completely unnecessary.”
Claire breathed in his clean, sharp scent–something like winter air and pine. It had appeared when he’d advanced to Level 2, and it was intoxicating.
“Zane, aren’t you curious where the formula came from? Or the sweet potatoes?”
She still hadn’t told Zane about her storage space. Rufus knew bits and pieces, but not because she trusted Zane less. She’d just been too busy.
Between feeding, nursing, and everything else, they’d barely had a moment to sit and talk.
Zane’s eyes softened. He lifted her hand and pressed his lips to her knuckles.
“You’ll tell me when you’re ready. My job is just to make sure you’re fed.”
His other hand found her waist–slightly fuller now, but still small enough to span with both
hands.
“I don’t want to get fat!” Claire laughed, then continued. “The formula and the sweet potatoes are from my storage space.”
“Storage space? Like our cave, you mean?”
Zane looked puzzled.
Claire thought about how to explain it.
“Sort of, but much bigger. The Beast God gave it to me as a reward for contributing to the Beast World’s population by having so many pups. Everything we had stored in the supply cave has been moved inside. I can pull things out whenever I need them.”
She watched Zane’s face carefully. There was no greed in his face, no excitement either–just

calm acceptance. She relaxed completely.
Zane nodded.
“I always knew you were blessed by the Beast God.”
Rufus strolled over, his voice bright.
“So if you get rewards for having babies–Claire, when’s my

turn?”
She had been sleeping with both of them, but hadn’t conceived.

Pome had told her: take the fertility pill and conception was guaranteed. Without it, natural pregnancy was a matter of luck.
Claire preferred it that way–she could choose when to conceive
Poor Rufus, though. Every time things got heated, he’d whisper breathlessly against her ear.
“Claire, give me a dozen–no, two dozen pups. I have to beat Zane’s number!”
The result was that Claire got thoroughly wrecked every single time.
And still no pregnancy.
Rufus was starting to lose hope. Zane, meanwhile, needled him about it at every opportunity. Unable to resist the bait, Rufus would erupt in fury—and then channel that fury into shoveling every last flake of snow from the courtyard.
On the bright side, Rufus’s rage–cleaning meant Claire could occasionally step outside for fresh
air.
The
pups,
however, had never been outside.
They were fast now. Four chubby legs pumping, and they’d vanish in seconds.
Three–tailed ones. Seven–tailed ones. One with wings. One absurdly oversized. Red, white, black–and then there was little Zane Twelve, the runt, whose third eye had opened: bright, alert, utterly otherworldly.
One look and anyone would know these pups were anything but ordinary.
Claire couldn’t let anyone see them.
Keep a low profile.

Survival first.
Beastfolk rarely ventured out during the cold season, but the occasional passerby was enough to keep her on edge.
She had vulnerabilities now.
With that thought, Claire gave in to Rufus’s burning, hopeful gaze.
Fine. Tonight, after they were done, she’d take the fertility pill.
Her body had long since recovered. She’d just wanted an excuse to rest, and she’d rested enough.
Besides, there was nothing else to do during the cold season.
So that night, after Rufus fell asleep with Claire wrapped in his arms, she flicked her wrist.
A tiny pill materialized and slipped between her lips.
The next morning, Pome could barely contain herself. Claire was pregnant again.
“Really? I’m actually going to be a father? This is amazing! It has to be mine!”
When Claire told Rufus, he lit up like the sun–grinning from ear to ear, showering her face with kisses.
Zane stood to the side, a pup in each arm, another one perched on his head.
His voice was dry.
“Could still be mine.”
Rufus nearly detonated.
“Impossible! Claire said it’s mine–so it’s mine! Right, Claire? It’s definitely mine!”
Claire was at a loss.
If she hadn’t taken the fertility pill–if she were just an ordinary female–how would she possibly know whose it was?
“We’ll know when they’re born. Don’t worry, Rufus–I’ll give you babies for sure! Well, not babies. Eggs!”
That was all it took. Rufus floated off in a haze of happiness to make Claire a new fur tunic.
