Chapter 70 Unexpected Figures
Claire’s mind flickered, and the fur scroll disappeared into her space.
Soon after, Elodie closed her eyes forever.

When the rogue beastfolk heard Claire’s question, they looked at each other and burst into loud laughter.
“This female’s got some brains. She doesn’t look bad either. None of you fight me for her! I’m taking her first!”
“Do you think you get to decide? Boss already said nobody can touch this female!”
“Fine. When Boss gets tired of her, I’m first in line!”
“Hahaha!”
The rogue beastfolk openly talked about how they would divide the females among themselves.
As for the old ones and the younglings, they would eat what they wanted and toss the leftovers into the snow to freeze.
The females trembled in fear. The younglings cried nonstop. A few elderly beastfolk tried to fight back but were knocked down in seconds.
As for the guards who had escorted them to the shelter cave, the rogue beastfolk had already defeated them earlier.
Rufus shielded Claire while gently patting the restless younglings moving inside the fur pouch.
The other beastfolk around him weren’t his concern. His only duty was to protect Claire and the younglings.
Elodie was gone, and grief pressed heavily on Claire’s heart.
She hadn’t interacted much with Elodie before. But after living here longer, she realized Elodie had truly been a kind beastfolk.
And now she was dead!
Claire glared at the rogue beastfolk still joking around. They killed someone and acted like it meant nothing. It was sickening and unforgivable!
“Rufus, are you sure you can defeat these rogue beastfolk?” she whispered.

Fiona clung tightly to Jeffrey’s arm, unaware of the disgust on his face, and glared at Claire.
“You forced me into this, Claire! You’ve gotten way too arrogant lately. Since the day I was born, I was the most adored female in the clan. Everyone loved me. But you ruined all of it!”
Claire sneered inwardly. That was because they had been blind and foolish.
Now that they’d finally come to their senses, she deserved the credit for it.
Fiona kept going.
“If it weren’t for you, Zane would be my beast slave, and Rufus would be my beast mate! I wouldn’t have gotten tied up with that stupid pig Gavin! It’s all your fault! And my skin looks this terrible because of you!”
She touched her face. The rough, pitted surface made her feel sick.
Her heavy body shook slightly. Fiona pointed at Claire and shrieked, “So what if you got prettier? So what if you can have younglings?
“Jeffrey said he’ll get revenge for me! Starting today, everything you have will be mine! You’ll die ugly!”
Claire looked at her coldly. Once Fiona finally stopped yelling, Claire pushed down her anger and asked, “So that’s why you helped the rogue beastfolk from inside and gave them the location of the clan’s most important shelter cave?
“Did you even think about what you’ve done? You’ll destroy the clan! You’ll destroy your own kind!”
Fiona clearly didn’t understand how serious it was. She hugged Jeffrey’s arm and pressed herself against him, rubbing her chest against his arm.
“Jeffrey said he won’t hurt the others or take anything from them! Just you–your food, your younglings, and your cave! Everything you own will be destroyed!”
