The Ultimate Reborn Heiress (Scarlett) novel Chapter 1

Chapter 1 Reborn

“Scarlett, don’t be afraid. I promise you, I’ll get the best doctors to heal your face.

“This is my family’s heirloom bracelet. I’m giving it to you. Give me your crystal bead as an engagement token. Once you’re discharged, we’ll get engaged.”

Scarlett Sanchez looked up. A well–dressed young man was sitting next to her, holding a shiny emerald bracelet. He smiled warmly at her.

For a moment, she felt dizzy. Had she come back to life?

She’s 18 again—the age when her reputation had been destroyed online and her face ruined.

“Scarlett, are you alright? Is your face still hurting? Want me to call a doctor?”

Seeing her spacing out, Raymond Xander thought she was not feeling good. His eyes drifted to the hand she held close to her chest.

Her fingers were gripping a chain tightly. It hung around her neck, with the other end held in her hand. It was probably a pendant.

Scarlett snapped out of it and looked around the room, then glanced at him. Lowering her eyes slightly, she said, “I’m fine.”

Raymond didn’t think much of it.

“Then let’s exchange the tokens. This bracelet is from my mom. She wanted me to give it to you. It’s a family heirloom, specially meant for the future daughter–in–law. She really likes you.”

“Is that so?” Scarlett’s voice was soft.

She remembered this moment clearly.

From ages 15 to 18, she’d been in showbiz, constantly being attacked online, and even disfigured. But the real start of her downfall began right here,

In her previous life, she had accepted Raymond’s bracelet and exchanged it for the crystal bead she’d had since childhood as their engagement token.

Soon after, she went with him to the Xanders for what she thought was an engagement party,

At the party, Raymond’s mother, Amelia Xander, noticed the emerald bracelet on Scarlett’s wrist and frowned. She demanded, “Where did you get that?

Scarlett stammered out that it was the engagement token she exchanged with Raymond.

Amelia sneered.

“Don’t lie. First, I didn’t even know Raymond was engaged to you. Second, do you know what that bracelet costs? That’s an imperial emerald. Who uses a bracelet worth tens of millions as an engagement token?”

Scarlett went pale. She looked at Raymond, who actually stared back in shock.

“Scarlett, you said you were going to the restroom. You actually went upstairs to steal bracelet?

“How could you do that? You’ve been in the entertainment industry, and there’s dirt on you online, but I never believed it.

“When you cheated on that exam, I defended you. When your face got ruined, I didn’t dump you. But now… how am I supposed to believe you?”

No matter how she tried to explain, no one listened. She became a thief whom everyone cursed. Amelia even reported her to the police.

In the end, it was her half–sister, Hazel Bailey, who begged the Xanders to drop the charges.

Then came even more online insults and vicious curses.

By her Senior year, Scarlett was completely out of it. Her SAT scores were terrible, and she didn’t even care about college.

Hazel suggested to Scarlett’s stepmother that Scarlett be allowed to audit classes at the performing arts academy Hazel attended.

After a year, Scarlett couldn’t handle it and dropped out, returning to her hometown.

She drifted for two more years, depressed and hopeless, until she got a terminal illness. Her stepfather, Hendrix Zeller, sold the house, borrowed everything he could, and brought her to the city for treatment.

Her mother, Daphne Sanchez, had become a vegetable after an accident when Scarlett was young. Hendrix wasn’t in good health either and only did manual labor. Money was never enough for Scarlett’s illness.

Even so, he tried everything. He sold everything and borrowed wherever he could just to get her to the city hospital, but it still wasn’t enough.

Finally, Hendrix asked Scarlett’s biological father, Matthew Bailey, for help.

Matthew disliked her, but he still arranged for her to move to another hospital. Still, it was too late. She died on the hospital bed.

It felt as if her soul left her body, floating midair as she looked down at her skinny self.

She planned to drift back home to see her family one last time, but the ward door opened.

Her stepmother, Leona Robinson, walked in with Hazel.

Hazel frowned and asked, “Mom, is she dead?”

Leona nodded. “Yes.”
