The Ultimate Reborn Heiress (Scarlett) novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Flesh Torn Open

Scarlett followed after him. She watched Raymond’s figure disappear around the stairwell corner and quietly trailed behind.

As soon as she turned the corner, she saw Raymond standing by a window, talking to a slender girl beside him.

That girl had delicate features, fair skin, and long, straight hair.

It was her half–sister, Hazel.

Hazel looked up at Raymond cagerly.

“Raymond, did you get that crystal bead?”

He shook his head. “Almost. She agreed to exchange it but then suddenly changed her mind.”

“What? How could she?”

Hazel’s delicate face instantly fell. She had been sure their plan would work.

Scarlett had always been on guard. During the five years she lived with the Baileys, Hazel and Leona spent the first three trying to win her over, yet Scarlett never fully trusted them.

Raymond had pursued Scarlett for an entire year before she slowly fell for him and agreed to date him. After that, she usually did whatever he wanted.

This time, Scarlett had been attacked by a hater who slashed her face with a knife.

Raymond planned to use her injury as a chance to propose, exchange tokens, and trick her into giving up the crystal bead. Who knew it would still fail?

He thought for a moment.

“Maybe she grew up in the countryside and hasn’t seen expensive things. She probably thought the emerald bracelet was too valuable. I should’ve used something simpler. That’s on me.”

Hazel muttered, “Then when can we get the bead? It’s really important to me…”

She didn’t actually know what the crystal bead did. Her mother only told her it was a treasure and that Scarlett had to give it up willingly.

That was why she begged Raymond to help.

She knew he was crazy about her.

She promised him that if he could make Scarlett hand over the crystal bead on her own, she would agree to be his girlfriend.

“Don’t worry, Hazel. She already softened up. Getting the bead is just a matter of time.”

Seeing Hazel’s eyes redden, Raymond pulled her into his arms and gently patted her back in comfort.

He had fallen for her at first sight back in middle school. For her, he was willing to do anything.

“What are you two doing?!”

An angry, hurt voice suddenly shouted from behind them.

Hazel and Raymond turned around at once, their faces changing. Scarlett stormed over, her expression dark with fury.

She’d been waiting for the perfect moment to blow up at them. Without letting them explain, she marched forward, her hand shaking as she pointed at them.

“One of you is my sister. The other is my boyfriend. And you’re sneaking around behind back?!”

Hazel panicked and shook her head.

“S–Scarlett, you misunderstood. Raymond just saw me crying and came over to comfort me.”

Scarlett sneered. “Do you think I’m stupid? What kind of guy hugs his girlfriend’s sister to comfort her?”

“Scarlett, it’s not like that,” Raymond said quickly. He’d endured for two years–he couldn’t let it fall apart now.

“You got it wrong. Hazel was worried about you and started crying. I–I was just comforting her.”

“Do you think I’m stupid? Or are you saying you weren’t holding each other?”

Scarlett didn’t bother arguing anymore. She pretended to lose control, rushed forward, and slapped Raymond hard across the face. “You disgusting cheating bastard!”

Before Hazel could react, Scarlett slapped her as well.

“And you shameless b*tch! You two deserve each other!”

After the slaps and curses, Scarlett looked at their faces. One side was already swollen.

It didn’t look even.

So the casually swung again, dapping the other side of both their faces.

They stood there in shock, watching her walk away,

When Daphne was pregnant with Scarlett, her relationship with Matthew fell apart. They divorced and remarried. When Scarlett was five, Daphne had an accident and ended up in a vegetative state,

Matthew often scolded her for it, accusing her of being ungrateful and wasting everyone’s kindness,

Scarlett glanced over when she heard the noise.

It was summer, and everyone was dressed lightly. That middle–aged man had his back to her.

As he waved his arms angrily, a thin, narrow outline appeared beneath the fabric at his lower back.

Before she could think further, over a dozen entertainment reporters suddenly rushed in from outside with cameras.

They quickly surrounded Scarlett.

“Ms. Sanchez, are the rumors true? Did you fail to seduce Zayden on set and lose the supporting role you finally got? And did one of his fans track you down and stab you a few days ago?”

“Ms. Sanchez, your face is wrapped up. Are you injured?”

“Are you disfigured? Can you

take off the bandages and show us your face?”

Scarlett frowned. She didn’t expect someone at the very bottom of the rankings, hated all over the internet, to attract that much attention.

It was probably because the rumors involved Zayden Jackman. Since they couldn’t get near him, they ambushed her at the hospital instead.

They weren’t wrong about one thing. She had been attacked by Zayden’s fan.

Three years ago, a talent scout discovered her, and she entered the entertainment industry, hoping to earn enough money to treat her mother without relying on the Baileys.

Things didn’t go that way. She barely earned anything. In three years, her reputation collapsed. She was hated online, and her company practically shelved her.

Ten days ago, the company finally gave her a chance to audition for a supporting role.

During the audition, someone shoved her from behind, making her fall straight into Zayden. Surveillance screenshots leaked online, accusing her of seducing him and faking a romance. She was torn apart online and lost the audition she’d struggled to get.

Two days ago, one of his crazed fans somehow learned her route and rushed out, slashing her face. Her hand and back were also stabbed.

The injury to her face was the worst–skin split open, flesh torn apart, bone exposed.

Scarlett was about to explain that she’d been pushed and that she wouldn’t let it go.

Suddenly, a sharp scream echoed from her left.
