The old lady had been smiling happily before, thinking about cooking fish for dinner.

Hazel saw the sudden change in the lady’s expression.

She stepped back, frightened, and didn’t dare ask anything more. She quickly said, “Sorry to bother you,” and turned to leave.

Brianna saw Hazel come back empty–handed and let out a sigh of relief. She realized that, as she thought, nobody in town was easy to deal with.

Far away, Simon was walking along a farm path.

When he saw Scarlett leave, he thought for a moment and followed her too.

Hazel saw Simon leaving, so she decided to follow him as well.

Since she couldn’t communicate with the townsfolk, she had no choice but to stick with Simon for now.
