Chapter 204 Trapped
But the truth was even more terrifying.
A ghost marriage.
In just a few minutes, what was happening in the livestream was clipped and spread across the internet.
Views skyrocketed and it shot straight to the top of the trending list.
“Accident on Faces of the Crowd.”
“Hazel Forced Into Ghost Marriage?”
“Cruel Scarlett Refuses to Help.”
Scarlett’s name trended as well.
Yet there weren’t many people cursing her.
Most viewers were already familiar with Scarlett’s detached personality.
Some even defended her.
[Why are you blaming Scarlett? Haven’t you all figured out what she’s like by now?]
In the final two hours before the show wrapped, the ratings hit an unprecedented peak.
Most people had rushed into Hazel’s livestream.
But plenty opened Scarlett’s stream too, or ran two accounts at once, watching both sides.
Robert was still pounding on the door, his voice growing louder, edged with anger.
Dorian kept explaining cheerfully to everyone.
“Mrs. Darrow did have a son. He’d be 21 this year. He was 20 when he passed away. He was attending college out of town. She loved him dearly, and they were very close. He was a good kid, very filial. He even taught her Dragorian.
“Gosh, last summer, on his way home for break, he got into a car accident and died on the spot. Mrs. Darrow cried so much she nearly went blind…”
Dorian rambled on, describing what a fine young man Mrs. Darrow’s son had been.
Everyone listening felt their skin tighten–mostly from fear.
Seeing his father about to lose his temper, Dorian hurried forward to help bang on the door.
“Mrs. Darrow, if you don’t open up, my dad’s going to call the townsfolk to break it down!”
Inside the house, Hazel heard the commotion at the gate.

She guessed the production team had arrived to pick her up and smiled at Mrs. Darrow.
“Ma’am, it must be the crew. I’ll head out now. Take care of yourself, okay? I gave you my number. We can keep in touch.”
As if she would ever call this woman. The moment she got back, she was blocking the number.
Even though Mrs. Darrow had treated her well these past few days, Hazel hated staying in a place like this.
She had no intention of befriending a small–town woman with no connections or influence.
But the cameras were still rolling, and the show wasn’t over. The audience was watching.
So, she kept smiling politely.
After speaking, Hazel pulled her two large suitcases and headed for the door.
Mrs. Darrow suddenly stepped in front of her and asked in Dragorian, “Wasn’t I good to you?”
Hazel froze. “Ma’am, what’s wrong? Of course, you were good to me. I like you too. But I have to go home now. My parents are waiting for me. If you like me, we’ll stay in touch.”
She grew more determined than ever to block the number later.
Why was this woman acting so strangely?
Miranda Darrow stared at her. “Then stay. Don’t leave.”
“Huh?”
Hazel didn’t understand.
‘Ma’am, what do you mean, stay? That’s impossible. My parents are at home. I miss them.”
Is she crazy?
Hazel pushed her suitcase forward again.
Miranda blocked her path once more, her eyes turning dark and unsettling.
Hazel’s patience snapped.
She looked toward the three crew members filming in the yard.
“Camera team! Help me! She won’t let me leave!”
She couldn’t make sense of it.
Hadn’t Miranda been easygoing before?
Why was she refusing to let her go now?

The crew members finally reacted. One stepped forward to help Hazel, while the other two moved toward the courtyard gate.
Suddenly, Miranda’s husband emerged from the kitchen holding a cleaver.
He said something in Drerea that Hazel and the crew couldn’t understand.
But when he raised the cleaver and positioned himself at the gate, his intention was unmistakable.
Anyone who tried to open it would get attacked.
Inside the courtyard, Hazel and the three crew members stood frozen.
Hazel finally understood that Miranda had agreed to host her from the start with ulterior motives.
And she realized just how serious the situation was.
“Ma’am, what exactly do you mean?” Hazel asked, keeping her face composed, though her knuckles were turning white around the suitcase handle.
A sudden thought struck her. Miranda had once said her son admired her. Could this be some ridiculous melodrama? Was she trying to force her to marry that son?
Hazel’s chest rose and fell in anger.
How could a family like this even dream of having her?
In her livestream, fans were panicking, shouting for someone to call the police.
[Call the cops! Call the cops right now! This is insane. It’s a country governed by law! How can they just block her like this?]
[This is disgusting. Is that old woman seriously trying to force Hazel to marry her son? Just because they’re in a remote area, they think they can ignore a woman’s will and trap her as a daughter–in–law?]
