Chapter 278 A Role Won Early

Calvert opened the door, and the four of them walked out together.

He had called Willard and Yvonne over earlier to help with the auditions.

Now the two of them followed him back toward the set to review the actors scheduled for the afternoon.

The four of them stepped out of the office.

Maggie was sitting in the waiting area outside. When she saw Scarlett walking out with the group, she grew nervous and excited. She didn’t even dare to wave.

Scarlett turned to Calvert and said, “Mr. Patton, I’ll head out now.”

“Alright, go ahead,” he said with a wave.

Finding such a talented young actress had put Calvert in a great mood. The show hadn’t even started filming yet, but he was already looking forward to working with Scarlett again.

After speaking with him, Scarlett turned to the other two.

“Ms. Webb, Mr. Holden, I’ll be going now.”

When Maggie saw Scarlett coming over, she quickly handed her a bottle of water. “Scarlett, do you want to get some rest?” Maggie asked. “Our audition number probably won’t be called until around three.”

Scarlett still felt a little strange when Maggie treated her so respectfully, so she asked her to be more casual.

Scarlett took the water and shook her head.

“No need. Let’s head straight back to Brookriver.”

Maggie froze.

Before she could ask anything, Scarlett explained calmly, “I already auditioned in the office just now. I passed. Mr. Patton will contact the company to sign the contract.”

Maggie nearly screamed with excitement but managed to hold it in.

“So, Scarlett, does that mean you got the role of Princess Mona?” she asked.

Scarlett smiled. “Yes. So we can go back to Brookriver now.”

Maggie was thrilled. She quickly texted Cedric the good news, then hurried to change their plane tickets.

Their original flight was scheduled at 7:00 p.m. It was only 1:30 p.m. now, and they could reach the airport by 2:30.

She changed their tickets to a 3:30 p.m. flight.

Meanwhile, quite a few people nearby had noticed what was happening outside the office.

At first, when they saw Scarlett chatting with the director, someone said in a jealous whisper, “See? Knowing an award-winning actress really helps. She’s chatting with the director like they’re old friends. Even the male lead is here, and she’s talking to him too. Maybe she won’t even need to audition. Maybe the role is already reserved for her.”

Someone was about to argue back.

Then, they saw Scarlett wave to her assistant and leave the building.

Everyone grew

confused.

Was the role really reserved for her?

Scarlett had told reporters at the airport that she was coming to audition. The news had even been trending online.

The auditions were supposed to start at 1:30 in the afternoon, but Scarlett had already left.

That made it look like she didn’t need to audition at all.

Most people assumed she had been given the role directly.

Lavender watched Scarlett and Maggie walking away, feeling angry and unwilling to accept it.

She also believed Scarlett must know Yvonne personally. Yvonne had brought her into the director’s office, and maybe they used that connection to give Scarlett the role.

Could Scarlett be auditioning for Princess Mona too?

Lavender had come for the same role.

If Scarlett really took it this way, Lavender would never accept it.

Princess Mona didn’t have many scenes in the show. She wasn’t even the third most important female character.

But appearing in a Calvert production carried serious weight in the industry.

Lavender clenched her teeth. That evening, she logged into an alternative account and posted a rumor online.

Soon, a trending topic quietly appeared.

“Scarlett Gets Role Without Audition?”

The post claimed that the writer had seen Scarlett on the set. Scarlett greeted Yvonne like they already knew each other, then followed Yvonne into Calvert’s office. Not long after, she came out and left, which probably meant she had used Yvonne’s connections to secure the role without auditioning.

Within minutes, many people began commenting.

But the discussion went in a completely different direction.

[Yvonne? Someone saw Yvonne at the set? Does that mean Yvonne is acting in this show too?]

[Oh my gosh, is Yvonne making a comeback?]

[OOOOMGGG! Really?! I love Yvonne! Is she really returning? The post said Yvonne was there -can someone take a photo? I want to see how she looks now.]

Lavender stared at the comments, furious. No one even cared about Scarlett.

By then, Scarlett and Maggie had already left the set and taken a taxi to the airport.

During the ride, Scarlett closed her eyes and quietly cultivated.

About twenty minutes later, Maggie suddenly looked out the window and shouted, “Hey! Where’s that fire coming from?”

When Maggie said that, Scarlett opened her eyes.

Even before Maggie spoke, Scarlett’s sharp senses had already picked up the loud noise outside.

She looked out the window.

Traffic had come to a stop. The taxi driver rolled down his window and leaned his head outside to look.

“Good heavens!” the driver exclaimed. “That’s a huge fire! Looks like a store is burning!”

Scarlett saw it too.

About 160 feet ahead on the right side of the street, a shop had caught fire. Thick smoke filled the air, and bright flames were pouring out of the building.
