Chapter 281 The Hidden Danger
It was clear there were explosive chemicals inside the restaurant.
But earlier, when Scarlett had been drawing the protective array, she hadn’t exposed the owner.
Vince looked at the restaurant owner.
The man glared at Scarlett and shouted, “That’s nonsense! H–how could there be explosive chemicals in my place? This is a diner, not some kind of chemical factory!”
Scarlett let out a cold laugh. “Who knows what you’re using chemicals for? Maybe a solution of formaldehyde to keep food from going bad.”
Formaldehyde solution–also known as formalin–was commonly used to preserve things.
Some meat on the market was sold very cheaply because it had already started to smell. Unethical sellers sometimes bought that kind of meat. After soaking it in formalin, the smell disappeared, and the meat would last longer.
If a diner secretly kept chemicals inside, it was often something like that.
Scarlett glanced at the owner. His sharp jawbones stuck out, his eyes showed too much white, and his narrow forehead gave him a harsh look. There was a cruel edge to his face.
Someone like him might do anything for money.
Vince listened to their argument. He immediately turned to the owner and asked sternly, “Are there any chemicals in your diner or not?”
Cold sweat ran down the owner’s back.
A bucket of the stuff was hidden in a cabinet beside the gas tank. If it exploded, the gas tank could blow up
too.
But soaking food in that chemical was illegal.
As long as he refused to admit anything and let the firefighters carry the gas tank out, the fire would be put out quickly. No one would discover the bucket.
After the firefighters left, he could dump the formaldehyde solution and destroy the evidence,
The owner clenched his teeth.
“No! If you want to listen to this girl instead of me, then fine! Just stand there and let the fire keep burning. When the gas tank explodes and blows up the whole street, don’t blame me if we all die here!”
He kept shouting.
“I pay taxes every month! My diner is on fire, and you won’t listen to me? Why are you listening to some random girl? Get in there and carry the gas tank out! I’m telling you the truth–it’s the biggest size tank. If it explodes, it would be bad for all of us!”

Vince looked at the owner, then at Scarlett. Finally, he gritted his teeth and told the other firefighters around him, “Follow the previous order. Move!”
The owner shouted those words but quickly stepped backward, planning to run farther away.
Vince turned and prepared to rush into the smoke–filled restaurant.
They were firefighters. They couldn’t just listen to a passing girl and retreat.
Even if there was danger, they still had to move forward.
Vince knew that in a diner like this, even if the owner had used formalin, the amount wouldn’t be large. If it exploded, it probably wouldn’t be too serious.
But a small blast could cause a chain reaction. The temperature could spike in an instant and ignite the gas
inside.
That was the real danger–the gas tank.
If that tank exploded, no one knew how powerful it might be.
The diner was close to the road. There were many shops nearby and apartment buildings behind them.
He had to get inside as fast as possible and carry out the most dangerous tank before it blew.
Scarlett grabbed Vince’s jacket and refused to let him go in.
From the moment she drew the array, made the hand signs, and argued with the owner, only about thirty seconds had passed.
She couldn’t let him go
inside.
The smoke was thick, and the fire was spreading. Finding the tank and carrying it out would be extremely difficult.
Earlier, a dense death energy filled the air.
That meant something inside was about to explode.
But after she finished drawing the protective array, most of the death energy had faded.
Except for Vince.
A moment ago, a dark shadow had hung over his face; it was a sign of certain death. Now the darkness was fading, but not completely gone,
If he went inside, his fate would not change. He would still die,
But if he stayed outside, then even if an explosion happened, the protective array she had drawn would keep everyone safe.
No one would die. Vince included.

That was why the shadow on his forehead still lingered.
Everything depended on whether he stepped inside.
Vince looked at Scarlett. “What are you doing? Let go and move back-”
Before he could finish speaking–Boom!
Something exploded inside the building. The sound wasn’t too terrible, just a small blast.
But right after that–BOOM!!!
A deafening roar followed, like thunder exploding right beside their ears. Something far more powerful had detonated.
The two explosions shocked even the people hiding far away.
The first blast seemed minor, only a small area blowing apart. It wasn’t very loud. Many people thought the gas tank inside had exploded.
