Chapter 282 The Explosion That Stopped in Midair
The propane tank exploded, but the sound was not as loud as everyone expected. The blast did not seem very strong either. The fire and debris only spread about three to six feet.
In a strange way, that felt like a small piece of luck in a bad situation.
But before anyone could relax, a much louder explosion suddenly roared.
The ground shook.
People screamed everywhere.
Vince, Sterling, and the other firefighters all turned pale.
During the first explosion, they had clearly seen something blow up inside the restaurant. But the sound had been too small. A large propane tank more than four feet tall should never explode with such a weak
blast.
Everyone realized something was wrong.
That first explosion probably wasn’t the propane tank at all.
It had to be some kind of chemical.
Which meant the restaurant owner had been lying.
A moment later, an even louder explosion shook the air. This one was far more terrifying.
The blast tore through the restaurant, and flames burst outward like a giant fire snake. The entire building seemed to explode from the inside. Windows shattered. Walls collapsed. Everything was blown apart.
The second explosion made every firefighter’s face turn pale. They were standing too close.
At that distance, the shockwave, flying debris, and roaring flames should have swallowed them in seconds. Even if they survived, they would suffer terrible burns or serious internal injuries.
That thought flashed through their minds in an instant.
Just as they were certain they would be blown away by the shockwave, something chilling happened.
The shockwave rushed toward them. Then it suddenly stopped. Even though the explosion was huge, it seemed to hit an invisible wall about three feet in front of them. It was as if the shockwave had been trapped inside another space.
The diner itself was destroyed, blown into pieces. But the nearby stores and the apartment building above the restaurant were perfectly fine. Not a single wall nearby had collapsed.
The firefighters could hear the thunder of the explosion clearly. They could also feel the heat rushing toward them.
But even the heat stopped about three feet away. It never moved any closer.

“H–how… how is this possible?” Sterling asked, his voice shaking.
The young firefighter glanced nervously at Vince.
Vince had almost rushed inside the burning restaurant earlier.
Luckily, Scarlett had grabbed his arm and stopped him.
If she hadn’t done that, Vince would have run straight into the building. Those two explosions would have undoubtedly resulted in his death.
Even standing outside, the blast should have knocked them off their feet.
But now they were completely unharmed.
It was too strange.
The whole thing felt unreal.
What was going on?
Sterling couldn’t help it. He turned his head and looked at Scarlett again.
Then he jumped in shock.
Her face looked even worse than before the explosion.
She was pale like a sheet of paper. There was no color in her face at all. Her body swayed weakly, as if she might collapse at any moment.
She looked like someone who was about to die.
Sterling quickly reached out to steady her. “S–Scarlett… are you okay?” he stammered.
Vince finally snapped out of his shock and fear.
He looked at the young woman beside him.
Her condition was frightening.
If she hadn’t stopped him earlier, he would have already rushed into the building and been blown to pieces.
But another strange thought crossed his mind,
Why had the second explosion stopped like that? Why didn’t the shockwave or debris spread outward?
Could it have something to do with this girl?
Just moments ago, she had drawn strange symbols on the ground using her blood,
Vince lowered his head and looked at the pavement.

Even stranger things happened next.
Blood suddenly vanished from the strange symbols drawn on the ground.
The pavement was now covered only with dust. There wasn’t a single trace of blood left, as if it had vanished into thin air.
Vince felt a chill run through his body. Now he was even more certain that the explosion had been contained because of the girl standing in front of him.
Could she be some kind of occult expert?
Had she helped them and suffered a backlash because of it? Was that why her face looked so frighteningly palet
Vince quickly reached out to support her. “Are you okay?” he asked. “Let me take you to the hospital
Scarlett felt extremely dizzy, and pain spread through her entire body.
The array she had set up worked like a protective barrier. It couldn’t stop the explosion itself, but it could keep the blast trapped inside a limited area so it wouldn’t spread outward.
Setting up the array had already been difficult.
Using it was even harder. With her current level of power, her body simply couldn’t handle it.
It felt as if her bones and blood were being torn apart. The pain was almost unbearable.
“Water,” she said weakly. “Please give me a bottle of water.”
Her voice was hoarse and faint.
Vince quickly grabbed a bottle of water and handed it to her.
Scarlett twisted open the cap. As she did, she quietly mixed a thread of spiritual energy into the water. Then she lifted the bottle and gulped it down.
The spiritual energy flowed through her body, restoring the power she had lost. The pain eased a little. though her mind still felt foggy.
Just when she thought she might faint from the pain, something suddenly changed,
Her mind cleared. The spiritual energy in her body began to circulate on its own.
Scarlett tightened her grip on the water bottle.,
A hint of surprise appeared on her pale face.
Her cultivation had just broken through.
Before this moment, she had been able to guide energy through her body during training. But she had never been able to transform that energy into true power until now.
