Chapter 29 Saving Blackie
The Production Crew.
After hanging up the phone, Scarlett didn’t say much.
She

back on her e–bike and continued with her food deliveries.

The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. She didn’t run into anything unusual.
After finishing a full day of deliveries, Scarlett stopped by a health food store to buy some herbs before heading back.
The viewers in the livestream were curious about why she was buying herbs.
All day long, her livestream chat had been pure chaos because that phone call she took that morning had quickly shot to the top of the trending topics.
The top three trending topics were all about her.
“Scarlett is ungrateful.”
“Scarlett exposes boyfriend hugging Hazel.”
“Scarlett’s 100,000 reward–inside job?”
Haters flooded into the live room to curse at her. Hazel’s fans were there know why Scarlett was framing their “sweet girl.”
Most of Hazel’s fans were what you’d call “mom fans.”

Another group showed up just to question whether Scarlett’s 100,000 reward was shady.
[That 100,000 Scarlett got feels really suspicious.]
[Yeah, I’ve never seen money handed out that fast. It’s just a good citizen award–why did the police give it? Shouldn’t the city do that?]
[There’s definitely something shady going on.]
[The investors behind Scarlett are seriously powerful.]
[Haha, so she’s got someone bankrolling her, some rich guy who can control power, and now she’s saying her boyfriend hugged her stepsister to comfort her? What a joke. She’s no saint herself. Does her boyfriend even know she’s being bankrolled by someone?]

Chapter 29 Saving
[Does anyone else feel like this is a coordinated attack on Scarlett?]
[Yeah, I get that feeling too.]
Quite a few viewers were still thinking clearly.
Plus, Scarlett had gained some fans lately, and some of them jumped in to defend her.
Scarlett had been delivering food all day and had no idea her live room had been overrun.
But she could guess.
The three staff members kept glancing at her like they wanted to say something but didn’t dare.
She didn’t care.
If she wanted to survive, she really did need more people to like her.
But what she needed was real fans.
Not the shallow, fake kind of love that looks nice on the surface, then collapses the second something happens, with people yelling “canceled” and running off to chase another celebrity.
So she didn’t care how the haters or random viewers trashed her.
All she wanted were people who genuinely liked her.
After buying the herbs, as Scarlett was about to return to the small two–s building where the show was filming. Suddenly, she turned and walked i.
[Huh? What is she doing now?]
[No idea.]

nearby alley.
Scarlett quickly found it. It was hiding behind a broken cabinet. With the alley so poorly lit, the viewers couldn’t see anything.
She crouched down and looked behind the cabinet, speaking softly. “Do you want to live? If you want to live, come out and follow me home.”
Behind the cabinet was a skin–and–bones cat, barely hanging on.
Scarlett had noticed her that morning–a black adult cat. Its fur was filthy, matted, and falling out in clumps. The exposed skin was covered in ringworm and festering wounds.
The cat was very sick. If no one helped her, she wouldn’t survive more than two days.

[Huh? Who is Scarlett talking to?]
When the cat sensed someone approaching, she instinctively arched her back.
She thought it was another human coming to hurt her. But for some reason, when she caught this person’s scent, she didn’t feel afraid at all.
Instead, she felt an instinctive urge to get closer.
The bony black cat crawled out from behind the cabinet.
She swayed as it walked, barely able to stay upright.
Scarlett picked up the black cat and turned toward the residential building.
The viewers in live room finally understood.
[Oh, it’s a cat.]
[That cat is so thin. Her skin is completely messed up. Why isn’t Scarlett taking her to a vet? Taking her back like that, she won’t survive.]
[StrawberryBear: Oh my god, it’s Blackie! I know this stray–I live nearby. She had such a hard life. A while ago, she was caught by an animal abuser and barely escaped. There’s still a long knife wound on her neck that hasn’t healed.
Blackie is very wary of humans and seriously sick. A lot of people tried to help her, but every time someone got close, she went completely wild. No one could catch he
in two days and thought she had died. She’s still alive–thank goodness.]
[So did the cat know she was dying and go to a human for help?]
aven’t seen her
The viewers didn’t think too deeply about it. They assumed the cat had only gotten close to a human because she was on the verge of death and desperate for help.
Scarlett carried the cat back to the production crew.
Everyone was gathered in the living room on the first floor.
Brianna screamed in shock. “Scarlett, what are you doing?! Why did you bring such a disgusting
cat back here?”
[Seriously, what’s wrong with Brianna? The cat didn’t do anything to her.]
[Well, you can’t really blame her. Some people like cats, some don’t. And that skin disease looks really bad—she is kind of gross.]

Selina looked at Blackie and saw how badly the cat was hurt. She felt worried.
“Scarlett, did you find this cat outside?”
She stepped forward, wanting to check on it.
But suddenly, the black cat in Scarlett’s arms arched her back, started shaking all over, and
hissed.
