Chapter 343 Nala
Facing Scarlett, the dog’s sharp instincts would register that she was powerful–and potentially dangerous.
Yet despite that, the Shepherd had only shown mild unease. It hadn’t moved an inch.
Its gaze never wavered.
It was an exceptional police dog.
The moment the girl heard Scarlett’s words, her expression changed. She instantly shielded the dog in her arms, glaring at Scarlett. “Who exactly are you people?”
‘Relax. We’re not here to cause trouble.” Scarlett studied the dog. “Your police dog is sick, isn’t she?”
She could tell the dog was a police dog, but its coat was slightly too dry–an unhealthy kind of dry. The nose wasn’t right, either.
Earlier, facing them, the dog had kept flaring its nostrils–trying to pick up their scent.
But it kept sniffing even after that, which meant it couldn’t lock the scent down.
Something was wrong with its sense of smell.
Scarlett could treat people. Animals were no different.
She also had spiritual essence.
Spiritual essence nourished all living things.
Though she didn’t know the specifics of the girl or the dog, Scarlett had a natural affinity for animals, especially a police dog that had served the public.
The contribution police dogs made to society spoke for itself.
Training one was no small feat.
When Scarlett mentioned the dog was sick, the girl’s tension became visible to the naked eye.
She protected the dog fiercely, staring at the three of them.
Scarlett was forming a theory.
If this were a police dog, and the dog trusted this girl completely…
Then someone in the girl’s family had to be the dog’s handler.
A family connected to the police dogs unit. That ruled out any connection to the kidnapper,
Scarlett looked at them both. “Your dog’s sense of smell is compremised, isn’t it? I can fix that.”
The skinny girl’s eyes went wide.

Chapter 343 Nala
Finished
Distrust was written all over her face. “You’re lying. I can tell from your voice that you’re not that old. You can’t be a vet. And even if you were, you couldn’t fix Nala.
“Her condition isn’t a normal illness. We’ve seen many vets and pet doctors, but none could fix her.”
So, the big dog was named Nala.
Scarlett said, “Other doctors might not be able to, but I can.”
The girl held Nala, looking at Scarlett with obvious hesitation. Something about her voice sounded familiar.
A look of confusion crossed her face. “Your… your voice sounds familiar.”
It sounded like her idol’s voice.
But how could my idol be here?
Am I hallucinating?
‘I’m Scarlett Sanchez.” Scarlett pulled down her mask.
The girl’s eyes lit up like flares.
She shot off the mat, bolted to Scarlett, and left Nala sitting alone.
At that moment, her fear of the three strangers had completely faded.
Earlier, she simply hadn’t realized that the person in front of her was her favorite celebrity.
‘You’re really Scarlett? I’m your fan! What–how are you even here? Can you really fix Nala? I know you’re amazing at treating people!”
She’d never imagined meeting her idol in person.
Her town was thousands of miles from Scarlett’s, the two located at opposite ends of the country, one in the north and the other in the south.
And my idol can treat animals, too?
Of course, Scarlett can do everything. She’s the best!
Scarlett saw the girl transform from sullen teenager to starstruck superfan in about two seconds.
“I’m here on other business. Do you want me to treat Nala?”
The girl nodded furiously. Of course, she did.
If anyone else had claimed they could cure Nala, she would’ve assumed it was a scam.
But this was her idol. Maybe Nala really could get better.

Chapter 343 Nala
Maybe Nala wouldn’t have to retire.
“Yes! Yes, please!”
The girl finally told them her story.
Her name was Vivian Efron. Her family lived right here in this tiny place called Pine Ridge.
She was 14 years old. Not even 15 yet.
Nala had wandered over to Vivian’s side. Vivian rubbed the dog’s head and kept talking.
“Nala really is a police dog. She’s almost four years old.

“She was big even as a puppy, and smart. She was selected for training at three months, and started working at a year and a half. She’s been on the job for two years now. She’s the best. She’s an explosives- detection dog.”
For any type of police dog, the nose was everything.
Their work depended entirely on their sense of smell.
Vivian’s voice cracked. “But there was an explosion during a mission. The blast threw Nala to the ground. After her injuries healed, her body was fine, but… her sense of smell was gone.”
