They’d seen the whole thing.
But Scarlett hadn’t so much as flinched–because she’d known the bald man’s lunge was pointless.
Sure enough, the man had the dagger aimed right at her, and somehow couldn’t bring it down.
Scarlett looked at the four groaning bodies. “Mr. Grant, let’s get them cuffed.”
Cody and Lewis moved fast, slapping handcuffs on every man still conscious or otherwise.
Cody shone the flashlight on each face, then sucked in a breath.
Scarlett already knew what had caught his attention.
The bone structure of these men’s faces told the whole story–every last one of them had taken lives. Vicious, desperate criminals.
Lewis recognized them, too.
His voice came out shaky. “Mr. Grant–these are the 514 fugitives.”
These fugitives hadn’t just robbed banks; they were murderers.
Their first crime had been over a decade ago, a bank heist.
Back then, the surveillance networks were primitive, and they had managed to escape.
They robbed a bank on May 14th.
Since then, they had committed numerous murders and robberies, becoming top–priority wanted criminals.
They were notoriously cautious, never appearing in areas with cameras and likely using disguises when hey did move.
That was how they’d avoided capture all these years.
The 514 case involved four main suspects–a perfect match for the men lying here.
Lewis rubbed the back of his head in disbelief.
What are the odds? The kidnappers they’d been chasing just happened to be the most–wanted fugitives from a case that had haunted Dragoria’s law enforcement for years.
And they’d been taken down without a single casualty or even a scuffle–entirely thanks to Scarlett.
She’d stumbled on Nala, cured the dog, combined her sigil craft with the dog’s senses to track Killian across hundreds of miles of camera–blind back roads, and then walked into the mine and ended four career criminals in seconds.

Without Scarlett and Nala, the team would never have found this godforsaken place. The fugitives had chosen their hiding spot well–a dead mine in the middle of nowhere.
They really did know how to hide.
Cody and Lewis made quick work of the remaining arrests.
Cody then stepped outside to call for reinforcements from the local police. First, the local precinct–they needed backup. Then, up the chain.
Scarlett stepped out of the tunnel and looked up.
Out here, far from everything, the stars burned brilliantly and clear.
She tried to study the heavens again. Still nothing.
Everything about this rescue had gone smoothly–almost suspiciously so.
Scarlett lowered her gaze. Her expression was unreadable.
Cody finished his calls.
They moved all four fugitives to the tree line.
Aside from the bald man–still unconscious–and Killian, the other three were awake.
They were awake and screaming.
Their cries had weakened to ragged, desperate whimpers.
Cody’s team couldn’t figure out what was wrong with them.
They had no major wounds, and Scarlett hadn’t even touched them.
They only knew that she had wounded their wrists with the dagger, and they hadn’t even bled that much.
Why were they in such agony?
Cody, wisely, didn’t ask.
Scarlett let them suffer.
The dark energy from the dagger was beyond what an ordinary person could endure.
But these men had innocent blood on their hands–a taste of real agony was the least they deserved.
About half an hour later, police vehicles arrived in force.
The four fugitives were loaded up and transported to the nearest city.
Cody had reported up the chain; the brass treated it as a priority case and coordinated directly with local law enforcement.

Chapter 356 Case Closed
They came in numbers–no one was taking any chances.
It was a 2 hour drive to the nearest urban center.
Cody checked Scarlett and Nathan into two rooms so they could rest.
The police, however, wouldn’t be sleeping tonight. There was too much work to do.

Ivy’s statement wasn’t urgent; she could give it once they were back in Brookriver. The girl needed a couple of days to recover first.
Everyone grabbed a quick bite–they were all running on an empty stomach.
Now, it was just Scarlett, Nathan, and Ivy.
Scarlett figured the little girl probably hadn’t had a proper meal in days.
She and Nathan decided to take Ivy out for food first..
The city wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was a far cry from a collapsed coal mine.
A few late–night food stalls were still open.
They found a meat fondue place–something hot to fill their stomachs.
Ivy was thrilled the moment she heard they were going out to eat.
She’d been terrified these past few days, yes–but some stubborn part of her had always believed Scarlett would come.
“Scarlett, I knew you’d rescue me!”
She was so absolutely, unshakably certain.
Scarlett smiled and ruffled the little girl’s hair.
“Why are you so sure about that?”
Ivy gazed up at her with big, serious eyes. “I don’t really know. I just… really, really like you, Scarlett.”
Sometimes, she even wished she were a boy.
