Chapter 357 The Truth of the Kidnapping
If I grow up, can I marry Scarlett someday?
Ivy didn’t know why she liked Scarlett so much–she just did.
Scarlett watched the little girl.
Truth be told, she liked the kid, too.
“Alright, let’s eat first.”
She didn’t bring up what the girl had gone through these past few days.
Even if Scarlett didn’t ask, Ivy started talking on her own.
She told Scarlett and her brother how she got taken and how she ended up here.
That night, she waited at home like a good kid for her brother to come back with groceries. Then someone knocked on her door.
She went to open the door without thinking. She saw a man’s silhouette, then a hand clamped over her nose, and everything went out.
When she woke, she was stuffed inside a pitchblack box.
She cried and fought and made a fuss.
They kept moving like that for a full day.
Later, they brought her here.
In a dark tunnel, a few men looked mean enough to bite.
On the way, they didn’t rough her up much. Once they got past the cameras,
Killian would let her out, give her food and water.
He never yelled at her or hit her. Most of the time, Killian stayed quiet.
Scarlett listened and didn’t press.
By now, she already knew the siblings were hiding something.
She’d thought the ones who grabbed Ivy might be tied to Leona’s backers.
But the kidnappers didn’t seem special at all.
Didn’t look like they had much to do with the forces behind Leona.
So, maybe the person who wanted Ivy taken was connected to those people?

The three of them ate in silence.
Ivy glanced at Nathan, looking hesitant, while Nathan seemed to be wavering as well.
Ultimately, neither said anything.
Ivy looked a bit disappointed and ate her food quietly.
After the meal, they returned to the inn to rest.

Early the next morning, Cody bought them plane tickets so they could get back to Brookriver City first.
Cody and two other officers still had to escort several suspects back to Brookriver City.
They weren’t on the same flight as Scarlett.
By afternoon, Scarlett was already back in Brookriver with Nathan and Ivy.
The next day, Cody called Nathan and told him to bring Ivy in to give her statement.
Scarlett stopped by, too.
By the time she arrived, Ivy had finished her statement.
Cody met Scarlett and gave her a quick update.
“These guys keep their mouths shut. They won’t say who ordered them to take Ivy.
“But we’ve got solid evidence on their past crimes. They’re basically looking at the death penalty. Let’s not forget, they still have families. My guess? They’re angling for one last payout. If they don’t give up the mastermind, their families might get a deposit later.”
These were dead men walking. They knew that once they got caught, they were done..
Some secrets they would never give up.
Whether they talk or not, it ends the same–with a death sentence.
Scarlett listened, then looked at Cody.
Maybe it was the miles they’d shared these few days.
Or maybe Cody had gotten a feel for her.
He caught her look and already knew what she wanted.
He said, “Scarlett, you’re gonna…?”
Even his address had shifted–from “Ms. Sanchez” at the start to just “Scarlett.”
Scarlett chuckled. “Cody, give me your hand.”
Cody understood.

He held his palm out to her.
Scarlett bit her fingertip and sketched a sigil on his skin.
When the sigil locked, the blood vanished, and a faint golden light flashed.
Scarlett’s face went pale; drawing sigils like this pretty much drained the spiritual energy in her body cach time.
She said, “This is a truth sigil. You can use it a few times. Press it to the suspect you’re questioning.”
“Thanks, Scarlett.”
Cody thanked her.
Sure, he and his team could work it slowly and still get the answer in the end.
But this involved Ivy, and Scarlett seemed to care a lot about the little girl. She probably wanted to find the mastermind fast, in case there was a next time.
Plus, Ivy clearly had a secret. Otherwise, why target a six–year–old kid?
That secret didn’t show up in Ivy’s statement.
He couldn’t force it.
Cody also knew he couldn’t lean too hard on the occult for a case.
This would be the exception, not the rule.
Scarlett leaned in and whispered two lines in his ear.
He nodded.
“Got it. I’ll handle it.”
Once Cody headed back to the interrogation rooms, Scarlett went to the next room to see Ivy and Nathan.
The siblings sat there clutching steaming cups of water.
Even their expressions matched–wide–eyed, watching people come and go beyond the window.
When they saw her, they both smiled.
Their brows arched.
They had mirror–image expressions.
Ivy softly called, “Scarlett.”
Nathan echoed, “Scarlett.”

Scarlett sat down.
She still needed to wait for the captain to come out and help her with something.
